Small businesses don't have armies of tax lawyers and corporate lobbyists to skirt liability and write special exemptions for them into the tax code.  More IRS enforcement for small businesses is an unfair tax hike for mom and pop.

Translation: "We just want to commit tax evasion in peace without any consequences, just like the billionaire companies do already. Cry "

Red avatars would be similarly upset if there were going to be 87,000 new DEA or ICE agents.

"Oh, you support this good thing? Well, what if it were a bad thing instead? Checkmate, liberal."

What would be bad about 87,000 new ICE agents?

I oppose mass deportations.

Of course not. But that's literally the purpose of a tax audit. If they haven't cheated, then they'll be fine.

There is nothing inherently wrong/illegal about just being "audited."
The person simply falls into a category where further review is needed, or indicates that further evidence (documentation) to back a "considerable amount" of deductions is warranted.
If everything is in order after the audit, then no harm is done.

Wouldn't be surprised if the 87k new IRS agents leads to more deportations, since they will be more able to go after immigrants who haven't paid their taxes. Even if an immigrant is here legally, they can be deported for that.

Still can be a hassle for small businesses.

Then let's rework the tax code to close all those loopholes big businesses use and level the playing field. Oh wait, congressional Rs block that at every turn. I wonder who funds their campaigns?

The 2017 tax reform was very beneficial to small businesses and as a tax accountant I can attest to that

So is having to renew your yearly business license, or pay employer taxes quarterly to the Treasury.
There are so many (gov) "hassles" we all must deal with, as a person or business owner.
Everyone knows these "hassles" upfront. Deal with it.

It depends what they are asking for, and how in-depth the issues go.
I was "audited" once, where they asked for one single piece of documentation. I gave them the copy they required, and it was all over. It was a "walk in the park."
People have this misconception of what an "IRS audit" is, or more like, what it must always look like. It is not.

Small Businesses are likely to be targeted more against big business so unless there is a provision that limits how much they can go after small business then I’d oppose this as well

Probably, but small business commit mass tax fraud, I've seen it. Everything is funky mathed to not have to pay taxes on actual income. So I really don't care.

So what, never audit anyone because people who didn’t cheat may be inconvenienced?

IRS auditing poor black people in the Mississippi Delta because they received the EICT? Good. IRS auditing a construction company owner in Rankin County because he's writing off luxury cars as business expenses, improperly classifying employees as independent contractors, and hiring his wife and kids to no-show jobs? Jackbooted fascists preying on hardworking job creators!

State and local law enforcement shooting a black guy who was running away from them? Should have obeyed the law! Back the blue! Federal law enforcement coming after Trump and the January 6 insurrectionists? The Gazpacho Police!

Republicans are supposed to be protected by the law but not bound by it. That is what they mean when they talk about "law abiding citizens" and "rule of law" and all that.

Tax evaders are the most oppressed minority in our country. This is a blatant attempt to eradicate their vibrant culture and it borders on genocide.

They're foaming from their mouths over this because the GOP hates an actually efficient federal government (even though they supposedly hate red tape in bureaucracies so much) and can't think of much else to fear-monger about in the IRA.

He's supposedly speaking at CPAC. They don't even care that he's friends with a trans person.
