It’s one of the largest cities that voted for Roy Moore in 2017. Even many conservative Birmingham suburbs voted for Doug Jones in a landslide. What is it like compared to the rest of the state?

The Wiregrass seems like one of the most dismal places in the country, the sort of place Steve Albini wrote "Kerosene" about except there's also a lynching or two every week.

Enterprise has a monument to a boll weevil (for encouraging their economy to diversify away from cotton, they say) because they are insane:

Is Dothan particularly trashy? Does it have more if a populist streak than many other conservative cities?

ok but actually the boll weevil infestation is a really important part of southern history. Without it we were on track to have our own dustboil type scenario. Cotton farming alone is incredibly unsustainable and had already lead to large swaths becoming inhospitable for agriculture.

All hail the boll weevil, nature’s ecoterrorist!

Still, having a literal statue to honour an insect is a little cringe, you've got to admit.
