Current cloud radars

Very wet in Iran right now. Kuwait might get some rain too.

This is eastern UAE and looks like a horrible flash flood.

For Iran it currently doesn't look great, large country but southern parts and central parts get tons of rain for the coming hours and days.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/7/28/qatars-rare-rain-in-july-as-storms-hit-gulf

Good article too.

Some people on Twitter claim this is the first ever july rainfall in Qatar, i can't verify it, but this article says this: "Al Jazeera’s Rob McElwee, reporting from Doha, said that rain in July in Doha “just doesn’t happen”.

It's safe to say it's very/incredibly unusualy, and especially the amount of rainfall.

I also discussed part of this already in this topic earlier.

I think it is paradoxal but arid and dry regions seem for a number of reasons vulnerable for floods.

- This has something to do with arid grounds, not able to absorb the water well enough.

- Some desert or dry regions are mountaineous, which leads to mudslides, rock slides and dangerous movements of waters [flash floods]

- Usually if any rain falls, it is likely to be intense, since a lot of desert areas border areas impacted by monsoons or have a short rain season.

- There are no natural river flows because the areas are very dry, as well as perhaps in some areas too little attention to flood mitigation measures. This would also lead to make more efficient use of the sparse water that falls, if done or implemented well enough, but that's probably a very challenging to do. Areas like UAE and Qatar should have the money though. Natural or artificial flood mitigation measures might also increase rainfall simply due to retained moisture also being able to trigger more rainfall due to more evaporation (as well as surrounding perhaps vegetation), but since it is also vulnerable to droughts, it might simply be too dry to sustain that, and freak rainfall events are hard to anticipate or predict.

Quote
Throughout the year, in Fujairah, there are 11 rainfall days, and 132mm (5.2") of precipitation is accumulated.

https://www.zawya.com/en/world/middle-east/floods-in-uae-non-stop-rainfall-breaks-27-year-record-pbf03tqb

Quote
After two days of incessant rains, Fujairah’s port station recorded 255.2mm of water, which is the highest in the UAE during the month of July.

Quote
The second highest was recorded in Masafi which was 209.7mm and the third highest was noted in Fujairah Airport with 187.9mm of rain.

This is about 100 times more rainfall than what is normally expected throughout the month of july here (one of the drier months). It is also the amount of rainfall which is expected to fall in 2 years time that fell in the span of 2 days.

Today has been a wet day for local parts of eastern Saudi Arabia, for Bahrain, for Western Qatar, and mostly large parts of the southern & central Iran, while also some in other areas in Iran.

Based on current predictions and actual observations, some monsoon rains will reach Kuwait and coastal Iraq (Basra) this evening
