I'm willing to bet Americans who say they've encountered ghosts/demons are much more likely to be the rapidly growing "spiritual but not religious" type than textbook Christians.

I guess I don’t see why you feel the need to call people stupid for claiming this.  I don’t believe in ghosts, but how would I possibly know what (if anything) happens to a consciousness upon death?  It could theoretically be anything.  There’s a difference between being skeptical and this type of arrogant.

Not sure if it count as being "personal" or not, but after my grandfather had died of COVID and then his subsequent burial, I had stayed over at my grandparents house for a few days to mourn him together as a family. I distinctly remember right before going to bed one night, seeing him smile at me and and my other family members sleeping from the top of the stairs of the basement. Now, I don't know if that counts as a personal ghost encounter or not.

I think seeing a “ghost” has gotta be the most destigmatized and widely accepted supernatural experience so those numbers don’t surprise me.

I had a personal encounter with a ghost when I was little, and I don't believe in ghosts (because I know it wasn't a ghost, but my memory of it has very supernatural elements, but I was a half asleep 7 year old, so, ya know not exactly a reliable witness).
