Also, Daesh is arguably in worse shape than AQ in terms of losing senior leaders. Guess all that sectarian mayhem in Iraq and Syria, unilaterally declaring a "caliphate" over a massive region of said countries, disobeying bin Laden's and later Zawahiri's orders, and painting a global target on their backs to an unprecedented degree via the taped beheadings of Western hostages, horrific mass attacks in European cities, and generally "not playing nice" with anyone, including fellow jihadists, is poor strategy long-term!

There's an amusing class division at play here too. Consider bin Laden's and Zawahiri's backgrounds vs. that of the godfather of ISIS, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi: two scions of incredibly wealthy and educated families vs. a literal street thug who found religion in Jordanian prison.

Keep in mind much of Former Suddam's Republican Guard took leadership roles in the Iraqi insurgency and ISIS

That's not a surprise, considering that ISIS tried to wage a conventional war it had zero chance of winning, while al-Qaeda did not. That made ISIS leaders not only sitting ducks but a high priority.

Just remembered that old “joke” prior to bin Laden’s death about how the most dangerous job in the world was to be the number 3 guy in Al-Qaeda.
al-Qaeda's #3 at the time of 9/11 was actually Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was captured not too long afterwards and has been held since. Although I'm sure he was replaced by multiple people including some who were later killed.

Either 3rd or 2nd was Mohammed Atef who was killed before Afghanistan fell.

I'm guessing that BRTD in particular is pleased to see justice served against Zawahiri, considering how much the latter hated Family Guy:

The US military isn't an occupation force, so I'm glad to see it going back to what it does best- bombing and drone strikes.

In any event, the vast majority of insurgencies fail, because at the end of the day, states can be even more violent.

This was actually the CIA not the military.

This should put to rest about Bin Laden wasn't killed and Biden allowing Taliban to take control of Afghanistan

Good riddance. This is definitely a blow to al-qaeda. This bast**d was one of the main ideologues behind the terror network and was one of the first supporters of the most heinous crimes for their radical purposes.

It's beyond comical the Taliban complain about violation of international norms after this. Can't make this up.

lmao, now they are just making s••• up

To put a definite end to the legacy of the man, he was the most dumbest and weakest jihadist leader out of most leaders. Not only was he a slimy opportunist, after all he let the Wahhabi faction take all the oxygen—and most of their infrastructure in a split far after—through making spoiled rich kid OBL be the face of the organization. In his utmost idiocy, he promoted and abetted sectarianism, making Iran and the wider Shia world be their enemy out of chauvinism. Even still, he was unable to actually succeed anywhere thanks to poor organizational skills and plants and spies stealing all the codes, something that would lead to their ruin from the beginning. He was without a doubt a failure, and we should be all overjoyed that this loser following what is the Islamic equivalent of the American Solidarity party failed so hard. Not even Saudi sheik money was enough to mask their mistakes.

Good riddance, a silver lining throughout all this is that through infighting and getting most of the conservative activists killed, they laid the groundwork for progressives to get a better foothold than in the nadir of the late 80s/90s.

The US military isn't an occupation force, so I'm glad to see it going back to what it does best- bombing and drone strikes.

Assuming that statement is not sarcasm, interestingly way back during the US Withdrawal from Afghanistan, where I was posting extensively on multiple Atlas threads, I actually had a certain DEM poster, "claiming to be a general" who defended the murder of civilians in the aftermath of the Kabul ISKP Airport assault, who appears to have deleted all of his posts on the topic...

https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=461200.msg8255334#msg8255334

I will not even get into the "awesome nature" of US Drone strikes in the various wars in Iraq and Syria, over the decades...

As a Leftist-Green American I have no major issue with finally "taking out a legit target", versus all of those years where US Taxpayers were paying "Blood Money" for the victims of those where our Intel and targets were off...

Strongly doubt Russia will at least provide that level of compensation thousands of innocent Ukrainian civilians who died and seriously injured at the hands of their bombs and guns.

Not trying a "both sides do it argument", but can't believe how strongly I was attacked on Atlas for simply posting stories from legit Social Media accounts from DEM leaning posters, because I was reporting stories that hadn't yet even hit the US MSM.

There is this old truism about "Military Intelligence", which I remember hearing growing up from Vietnam Vets, and guess what it says...

The Islamic equivalent to the ASP would probably be even more moderate and mild than the Turkish Justice and Development Party, how are you comparing it to Islamic Jihad lmao

The demographic support of the AKP is closer to the Trump coalition than the ASP’s. And the shoe does fit with close analysis of Qutb’s writings.
