What he said isn’t unreasonable lol, he said that the programs should be shifted to discretionary spending the way the VA’s budget is allocated by congress so that congress has the opportunity (and is on the hook for) fixing these programs and making sure they don’t go bankrupt. Classic clickbait title which is not remotely what he said.

I’m not saying the policy is bad but it’s still dumb to say something like this in an election year .

The policy is asinine on multiple levels, starting with flushing down the toilet all of the financial planning those paying into the system reasonably relied. Hey Torie, we find the SS program is underfunded, so we are slashing your check in half. Have a nice day. Too bad Congresspersons are not part of the SS system. Another approach is to slash medicare, so geezers die sooner. That will help improve solvency a lot on both fronts.

He's running for re-election in a swing state. He should know better than to say things like this that could be easily represented as such and end up in campaign ads.

You're getting exactly what you spent several decades of your life voting for and are now only upset about because it's affecting you.

"Make it discretionary spending" = steal money from Medicare and use it to give tax cuts to rich people and corporations that they don't need. Disgusting.

Would it be overconfident of me to say we're seeing something of a repeat in 2012 this year? All of the fundamentals should favor Republicans, and still do, but gifts like these really turned the tables.

He doesn't act like he's running in a swing state, and it feels very much that some Republicans are just taking the midterm for granted. It may ultimately pay off for him but this isn't the year where Republicans should need to be playing defense in Wisconsin

This would literally put people on the street and senior citizens at that. And taking away Medicare would kill a lot of people.

What is it about Wisconsinites and not being able to shut up about entitlement programs?

And the first chance Republicans had total control they would opt not to fund these programs.

At minimum I think they would start imposing means-testing and other eligibility restrictions.

They think those programs only go to help Milwaukee and minorities. They don't consider social security or anything else they get as an entitlement, it's an "earned" benefit to them. Roll Eyes

When Wisconsin elects its people, they're not electing their best.

I doubt it'll impact anything. Ron's always been the type to say crazy things but that didn't stop him from outperforming Trump. Russ was better.
