Look, you know, nobody started exploring the region until after Captain Cook sailed through it, and even then all people could find at first was a bunch of islands. But it was Nathaniel Palmer who first unambiguously glimpsed any part of the Antarctic continent, and it was John Davis who first set foot on the Antarctic mainland, and it was Charles Wilkes who first connected all the isolated data together and realized it formed a single continental landmass, and they were all Americans every step of the way. We've got a long and illustrious history of exploring Antarctica and we chose the path of international cooperation and scientific enquiry instead of grabbing every newly discovered ice cap for ourselves. And I just think that's interesting to think about.

I'll have you know that the Emperor has not just ANY clothes, but the very NEWEST and BEST clothes. But they say that these clothes, being such beautiful and fine clothes, are invisible to fools and those who are unfit for the job they hold. Really makes you think, doesn't it??
