I feel like yall would be angry if the right did something similar. I’ll admit that it’s hard to find a good solution here though.
I don’t really see it as an issue, personally. Say West Midlander resigned and was replaced by Fhtagn. Both of them would probably vote the same on most legislation. Maybe Fhtagn introduces more religiously minded bills, but the overall effect isn’t that drastic.

Elections are always around the corner in Atlasia. If this were a traditional Senate with 6 year terms, this would be a much more salient issue.

I agree with S019 here. This puts minor parties at a disadvantage because they may not have enough support to win a nationwide election even if they have enough support to get one seat in a proportional election.

An at-large election (for Senate level) is fine IF you limit the franchise to those who first-, second-, third-, or fourth-preferenced the outgoing incumbent.

I don't get a vote in this chamber, but this is something I would vote for once presented to the people.

I have opposed this every time that Ishan brought it up. I understand the concern here certainly, and that is why under my leadership I have gone to great lengths to ensure that various factions on the right are not subordinated when vacancies occur. That being said, the preservation of such voices and their elimination can just as easily be silenced via the 51% subjugating the 11% that would otherwise be sufficient to win a seat, and there by eliminating dissent.

Those most adversely affected here would be third parties, but also libertarians who many times found their voting influence preserved thanks to the actions of the Federalist Party Leadership in the appointment process. Conservatives have often long struggled in national elections as well and many people who can win a seat in a normal At-large election, stand not a chance in hell of getting 40%, much less 51%.

If Labor or someone else is abusing this process, and benefitting one faction at the expense of another in the process, then that is an indication that something needs to change or a shakeup needs to occur in terms of how they are affiliating. We stand to lose far more than we would ever gain by doing this.

Gonna have to go with Aye here, considering the fact that the amendment in its current form (and most forms I can think of) would disadvantage small parties.
