When people talk about colonialism being the thing which made so much of the world worse, letís all remember that Afghanistan was never a victim of colonialism and itís pretty much the worst country in the world.

Well having the Russians and British conduct occasional invasions and power plays in the court all throughout the 1800s, preventing any sort of stable government, along with an occupation that objectively caused the greatest movement of urbanization since the Indochinese conflicts is colonialism.

Yes we all know winning wars work against developing stable governments./s

To claim Afghanistan never really was a victim of colonialism tells me you donít actually consider geopolitics or society beyond a surface level.
I will never understand why Western Europeans (and Japanese) people donít just accept they f**ked some places up. Yes itís not the ONLY factor, but it certainly is one.

Speak for yourself imperialist, the countries who got independence from my country are all high income countries.

Seems like it has a fine culture with good people in it. Sadly, interference from the outside world and theocracy has made the place a sh*tshow for the moment. And as others have already said, the disunity of many Afghani tribes would have probably caused problems regardless, but it wouldn't be as bad.

1: I donít really think you would talk about tribes in the context of Afghanistan.

2: I donít really see what people find so great about Afghanistan or Afghan culture. Theyíre mostly known for being brave and vicious fighters, treating women as subhumans and pedofilia.

Um, why not?

Different organizational principles, the Afghans seem to built their identity on religion, language and culture more then common descent and to large extent they choose sides based more on personal ideology and interest than because of loyalty to specific people (not that it doesnít happen also). Simply put Afghan ethnic groups are more like nations than tribes.
