Seems like it has a fine culture with good people in it. Sadly, interference from the outside world and theocracy has made the place a sh*tshow for the moment. And as others have already said, the disunity of many Afghani tribes would have probably caused problems regardless, but it wouldn't be as bad.

1: I don’t really think you would talk about tribes in the context of Afghanistan.

2: I don’t really see what people find so great about Afghanistan or Afghan culture. They’re mostly known for being brave and vicious fighters, treating women as subhumans and pedofilia.

How is it racism to say someone doesn’t have a net positive opinion of a country with a terrible human rights record, history of having governments that shelter terrorists, and is extremely hostile to any modern development?

Um, why not?

Different organizational principles, the Afghans seem to built their identity on religion, language and culture more then common descent and to large extent they choose sides based more on personal ideology and interest than because of loyalty to specific people (not that it doesn’t happen also). Simply put Afghan ethnic groups are more like nations than tribes.
