The Spanish Republic presents the following motion:

A MOTION
To the League of Nations

The League of Nations resolves

That the Spanish Republic is universally acknowledged as the legitimate governing body of Spain.

That according to the founding charter of this League, members have agreed to act with open, just and honourably with other nations.

That dealing with armed internal groups who are engaged in rebellion against the legitimate Spanish government violate the principle of the League charter.

That League members agree to impose sanctions on any member found to have conducted dealings with armed groups in rebellion against the legitimate Spanish government.

The Republic of Spain votes YES on the motion of Republic of Ecuador.

The Republic of Spain votes YES on the motion of Kingdom of Afghanistan.

The Spanish Government has concerns with the Egyptian motion. The British government operates a standing army in major Egyptian cities and maintains the right to full control of Egyptian military and foreign affairs. The British government also controls internationally recognized Egyptian territory with no input allowed by the Egyptian government in the Suez Canal Zone, much as the do the Spanish territory of Gibraltar. That being the case, the Spanish Government cannot acknowledge the Egyptian government as a free and independent polity at this time and therefore votes NO on the motion of the Kingdom of Egypt.

A motion:

For the League of Nations to send military forces to Iran and Iraq to drive out the British.

While the Spanish Republic has sympathy for those trying to reclaim what is rightly theirs from Britain, we deplore the use of violence and loss of life by which it is being done by the governments of Persia and Iraq. Moreover even if violence was the appropriate way to do so it would not be appropriate for the League of Nations, an organization meant to foster peace and brotherhood between different peoples, to endorse the use of violence on another member. For that reason, the Spanish Republic votes NAY on both pending Irish motions. We also propose the following as an alternative:

Quote
The League of Nations,

Considering that a grave situation has been created by actions taking place within the Kingdom of Iraq and the Imperial State of Iran,

Taking into Account that the United Kingdom, the Republic of Turkey, the Kingdom of Iraq, and the Imperial State of Iran are all members of this League and that all are bound by Article XI of the Covenant of the League of Nations to take any action to maintain the peace of nations

Calls on the United Kingdom, the Republic of Turkey, the Kingdom of Iraq, and the Imperial State of Iran to cease all hostile action against one another and to agree to League-mediated discussions on the maintenance of peace.
