Multiple NFL Teams reportedly eyeing Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

If Harbaugh leaves Michigan (I don't think he will), here are my guesses as to who will be the next head coach for the Wolverines (I did this last year too).

Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin
Kansas State Head Coach Chris Klieman
Florida State Head Coach Mike Norvell
UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly
Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury
Illinois Head Coach Brett Bielema

Add in Dan Mullen as a wildcard

Given how Mullen's tenure at Florida ended, I don't think he'd do particularly well at Michigan.

If we're putting Kingsbury (fired after sucking at Texas Tech) and Bielema (fired after sucking at Illinois) on the list, I think I guy who went 34-15 (21-14) at Florida and finished 7th, 6th, and 13th before having one down year that still wasn't that bad can be on the list too.

Florida vs #14 Oregon State 7:30 PM EST ABC A 9-3 school playing a 6-6 school? What a mismatch. I feel bad for the 9-3 school since a win will be disregarded and a loss would be an embarrassment. (This commentary will be repeated with another Florida school.) Even if Florida had the better players, Anthony Richardson seems pretty checked out and is slated to go #1 (Huh?) in the draft so I doubt he plays making this an easy Oregon State choice.

Coastal Carolina Head Coach Jamey Chadwell has accepted the vacant position at Liberty.

Great hire for Liberty, but I can't help but think Chadwell could have gotten a better job if he'd waited another year or two (Maybe North Carolina's when Mack Brown retired, for example).

NC State Offensive Coordinator Tim Beck will be Chadwell's replacement at Coastal Carolina.

Beck has a long history as a position coach and coordinator, including stops at Kansas, Ohio State, Texas and NC State, and should hold up well in recruiting. Good hire.

Multiple NFL Teams reportedly eyeing Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

If Harbaugh leaves Michigan (I don't think he will), here are my guesses as to who will be the next head coach for the Wolverines (I did this last year too).

Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin
Kansas State Head Coach Chris Klieman
Florida State Head Coach Mike Norvell
UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly
Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury
Illinois Head Coach Brett Bielema

Obviously, Harbaugh has put out a statement that he's not going to the NFL and he will be coaching at Michigan in 2023. I think we have to believe his word until we hear he's interviewing with the Colts or some team. But as for this list:

Kiffin: Interesting. He didn't take the Auburn job, but maybe because there is just too much dysfunction. Maybe he'd take a job like Michigan, especially with there being recent success showing a path to winning a national championship. Of these mentioned, he could have the most success, but it could also come down crashing and burning and sink Michigan out of relevance.

Klieman: Certainly seems like a good coach, but probably not for Michigan. Michigan really needs to start recruiting more and more 5 stars, and I doubt he can do that. He'd probably be a better fit for a school that doesn't have as fertile of a recruiting base, because that's where he's succeeded in the past. Frankly, Nebraska probably should have hired him.

Norvell: I really don't watch enough FSU football to know much about him. Only real issue I see is that the sample size at the Power 5 level is pretty small. If I were Michigan, I'd like to see a bit more from a candidate before entrusting the keys to a supercar.

Kelly/Kingsbury: I think these guys would never get hired by Michigan. Michigan's forever identity was smashmouth, pound the ball, "pro-style" football, and they succeeded with that. They brought Rich Rodriguez in to upend that and change philosophies entirely. It absolutely failed. When Harbaugh came in he kind of went middle of the road pro and spread styles, and had moderate success. Now they have gone back to their roots of "pro-style" football and they are having their most successful stretch in the modern era. Even if these guys aren't a terrible idea in a vacuum, I don't think Michigan would hire someone who would bring about such a big change when the status quo is working so well, and when they have been burned in the past. Plus there is reason to believe that football is going to pivot backwards to being a game more suited for the physically dominant as players have gotten faster, but smaller to keep up with the spread system. Big tough running teams may be the future, as we are seeing how well its working right now.

Bielema: Now, I do think compared to Cincinnati, Michigan is certainly at a level of a job that could entice Bielema to leave Illinois. Do I think he would get offered a job like Michigan? I kind of doubt it. Style-wise, would he be a good fit? Perhaps the absolute best fit. Can he recruit at Michigan's level? Probably not. I just think Michigan fans and boosters as a whole would be very disappointed with the hire, as he probably would not be perceived to keep up with the OSUs and Georgias and Alabamas of the world. But yeah if you had him step in to coach that roster it would fit like a glove.

I was wrong! Congratulations to Scott Satterfield for successfully escaping from Louisville for the greener(?) pastures of Cincinnati.

EDIT: I didn't even realize that he's going from one team in the bowl game to the other. Will he coach one of them for that game? I'd think it'd be a lose-lose for him whichever team he coached.

Under my preferred post-season alignment, this would be the NY6:

Orange:  #7 Clemson vs #6 Tennessee
Sugar:  #1 Georgia vs #9 Kansas State
Fiesta:  #3 TCU vs #10 USC
Peach:  #5 Alabama vs #4 Ohio State
Rose:  #2 Michigan vs #8 Utah
Cotton:  #11 Penn State vs #16 Tulane

Georgia and Michigan most likely playoff if they both win, but the winner of the Peach Bowl is arguably in contention as well.

Cincinnati has hired Louisville Head Coach Scott Satterfield to fill their Head Coaching vacancy.

Good Hire by Cincinnati, as Satterfield is a program builder, and that's what the Bearcats need as they transition to the Big Twelve.

Best guess for the head coaching vacancy at Louisville:

Alabama Offensive Coordinator Bill O'Brien
Michigan Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter
Former Florida Head Coach Dan Mullen
UTSA Head Coach Jeff Traylor
Former Wisconsin Head Coach Paul Chryst

The top candidate is going to be Jeff Brohm from Purdue. He's a Louisville native, played quarterback at Louisville, and was an assistant there for years. The job he's done with Purdue has been tremendous considering how putrid they were before he get there.

I'm pretty sure Brohm turned down the Louisville job the last time it was open. Why would he take it now?

Its unclear how seriously he was pursued last time; he hadn't even finished a full season at Purdue when their last coaching search was going on making the option less ideal for both sides. He may turn it down but I have no doubt that he'll be at or near the top of their list.

Tulsa is filling their head coaching vacancy (apparently they fired Phillip Montgomery and I didn't notice) with Ohio State Offensive Coordinator and former Indiana Head Coach Kevin Wilson.

Interesting hire. He was a great coordinator at Ohio State, but his prior Head Coaching job at Indiana didn't go well, with the only bowl game he made and got to coach in being a loss in the 2015 Pinstripe Bowl to Duke.

Not sure Tulsa could have gotten anyone better, though. They really aren't an attractive destination for most marquee coordinators, recently fired head coaches, and even some top FCS head coaches, being both one of the weakest overall programs in the American (though that status should improve somewhat with Cincinnati, Houston and UCF leaving for the Big Twelve and UAB, FAU, UNC-Charlotte, North Texas, Rice, UTSA arriving).

Kent State Head Coach Sean Lewis is becoming Colorado's Offensive Coordinator

As much as I think working with Deion Sanders will be great for the resume if Lewis wants a Power Five job in the future, he could have gotten a different Head Coaching position if he wanted it (like Louisville or UNLV).

No clue who becomes Kent State's head coach, and I'm not seriously going to guess.

Georgia got screwed in a big way. The committee can say what they want that the “rematch” thing was never discussed but they clearly tried like hell to avoid it. No doubt. Which was a screw up because not only were ratings going to set records but it was the right matchup.

Georgia will of course beat Ohio State. But Ohio State is more talented then maybe any team other then Georgia and will make Georgia put in at least mild effort. Meanwhile Michigan gets a bye week. TCU has absolutely no prayer

Yes, Ohio State/Michigan would have been great for ratings, but I can't see any result other than another Michigan victory as possible.

If they wanted to avoid a rematch, they should have figured out a way to put Clemson in over Ohio State.

If they wanted to avoid a rematch, they should have figured out a way to put Clemson in over Ohio State.

There is a strong recency bias with that statement.

Alabama had beaten Georgia 7 times in a row (over 14 year span)
However Georgia was favored to finally beat Bama. Georgia was favored by 6.5
Game was basically a Georgia home game (in Atlanta)
…. Alabama had over 500 yards and won by 17
A month later Georgia beat Alabama by double digits by 15

So it’s not a forgone conclusion Michigan would beat Ohio State again. It’s clear Ohio State is the more talented team - they are just soft. A little toughness makes a lot of difference.

I could see the game going either way.

But the point still stands. Georgia should have got the easiest opponent, and that is easily TCU

You can certainly make that argument, but Georgia DOES get a big advantage in that it gets a game less than an hour from its campus that should be pretty close to a home game. Michigan might travel well but the Fiesta Bowl is still on the other side of the country. Assuming TCU can find enough fans to go the environment will be more neutral just due to that. That IS worth a few points to Vegas.

UNLV will fill their Head Coaching vacancy with Arkansas Defensive Coordinator Barry Odom

Interesting hire, Odom's only previous Head Coaching job was at Missouri, which led to losses in the 2017 Texas Bowl (to Texas) and 2018 Liberty Bowl (to Oklahoma State). He's never coached out west before, so this will be interesting from a recruiting standpoint.

Well given your previous Georgia takes I should probably be pretty optimistic on TCU's chances!
