NJ loves elevating terrible Democrats to higher offices, so it'll probably be her or, worse, Gottheimer next in line for a Senate seat.

Dread it, run from it, Senator Menendez Jr. arrives all the same

She'd be an upgrade over Menendez in the sense that she's not corrupt.

That said, I think the better move for her would be to run for Governor in 2025.

Is there any evidence at all that she would be another Manchin? Is this something people say about literally any Democrat to the right of Pramila Jayapal?

She may call herself a “Blue Dog”, but she’s ultimately a pretty solid Dem. Compare her to real Blue Dogs like Dan Boren or Mike Ross or Heath Shuler or Lincoln Davis.

If she becomes a Senator, she’d be representing Biden +16 New Jersey, not Trump +40 West Virginia.

I can see her running for Governor in 2025. Might outperform Murphy’s 2021 margin at least!

Yeah, she's the easy favorite for Menendez's seat. She's a pretty rock-solid Dem from a purplish district, much closer to a Spanberger than a Manchin.

I don't even think she's a part of the Problem Solvers Cucks.

Bloombergcrats aren't really my cup of tea but she's not really objectionable.

I feel like her district getting so much bluer in retiring gives her “permission” to retire and potentially seek higher office while still having the credential of flipping a Trump-2016 suburban district. I do think a lot of Dems in more competitive seats feel more pressure to stay in office for the party; simillar thing on Rs side.

If we're running Dems with the credential of flipping swing districts, I'd much rather be running Andy Kim.

Yea, the real Blue Dogs are dead. Even "moderate" Democrats such as Cuellar are just generic partisan hacks who haven't totally gone off the deep end.

Yeah I'd prefer Andy Kim as well, but given that Sherrill is from North Jersey and she'd have the backing of the county line, she'd be an easy favorite. I don't inherently dislike the idea of Sherill as a senator though. She wouldn't be a Manchin or Sinema and doesn't typically punch left either. I know she's a blue dog technically, but she's pretty much a standard center-left Democrat. It would be disappointing though given how blue NJ is.
