What cretins thought it was a good idea to delay vaccinations for kids in the first place?

DeSantis is an unhinged lunatic. God help us if he finds his way into the White House.

People who don't want kids developing myocarditis unnecessarily.

Unless the chances of developing myocarditis have shrunk as the strains have evolved from the pre-omicron variants, unvaccinated kids are significantly more likely to catch COVID and develop myocarditis than they are to get vaccinated and get myocarditis from the vaccine. The bolded part is extremely relevant though and I'm ignorant on that particular topic.

In a recently publish study of 15.1 million people getting the COVID vaccine. 411 total reported cases of myocarditis and/or pericarditis. That's 1 in 36,739. Generally there is quick quick recovery, although a 4% fatality rate has been documented for myocarditis. (That works out to roughly 1 in 888,000, worst case)

81.4 million gun owners in the US. 18,823 dead to gun violence so far this year. That's one death for every 4324 gun owners.

Republicans like Fuzzy think guns are fine, but are really worried about the vaccine.

Those people should be the most pro-vaccine, since it's a much more likely side effect of COVID than the vaccine.

The more gun deaths from criminals, the more law abiding people need firearms of their own.  Lions don't attack tigers, and they don't attack tiger cubs.  Criminals don't attack armed targets when they can attack unarmed targets.

I'm not "really worried" about the vaccine, but I'm unalterably opposed to mandates.

And, yes, guns are fine for law-abiding citizens.

You're right, that's why gang violence is nonexistent.

Yeah, Republicans have to be living in an evidence-free zone if they can't even acknowledge that the US has higher rates of gun violence than countries with less civilian gun ownership and more regulation of the types of guns people can own.

Is there anyone who takes that view that there isn't necessarily anything wrong with vaccinating under 5s against Covid, but at the same time takes the view that Covid isn't any more deadly to under 5s than head lice?

Or does it have to be a binary (aren't we supposed to be doing away with binaries?) choice between - the vaccine will kill everyone, and - Covid will kill everyone?

That's good for you, but missing the point of this thread.

Neither this thread nor the news story that led to this thread is about vaccine mandates.

Lisa Gwynn was not removed from the health board for advocating vaccine mandates, she was removed after (allegedly) saying that Florida was obstructing access to vaccines.

Gwynn herself seems to deny accusing the state of directly obstructing vaccine access, instead she says that she was advocating "for equitable access for the underserved and for pediatricians".

Either way, the more important question is probably: Why should people have access to guns, but not to vaccines?
