The Soviet Union denounces Horthy's comments regarding France. They are little more than the ramblings of a fascist who cannot accept that his country lost the war.

President Roosevelt has asked Congress to pass new legislation at this time as part of his New Deal.

This legislation consists of the following:

A Government Health insurance program to cover all Americans, with tax incentives for private insurers to participate.

Legislation that would return tariff levels to what they were in 1914.

The Prime Minister will table legislation to set a standard tariff rate for imported goods at 17% and a favored-statutes tariff rate for goods imported from Imperial dominions at 10%, unless otherwise determined by an existing treaty. This will protect Canadian producers and protect the Canadian market.

Reaffirmation of the Little Entente and the Declaration of the Pact of Organization
Source: Wikimedia Commons
Quote
Czechoslovakia, Romania and Yugoslavia, with the support of their fraternal partner the French Republic, today reaffirm their commitment to, and membership in, the “Little Entente.” The members reaffirm their adherence to the tripartite treaty of alliance signed at Strbske Pleso in 1930 and the French Republic reaffirms its treaties of alliance and friendship signed with all three members.

Recognizing the benefit of mutual cooperation, formal instruments of collaboration shall be formed in the coming year, including:

-The Permanent Council, to consist of the ministers of foreign affairs of the three respective countries or of the special delegates appointed for that purpose. Decisions of the council are to be brought unanimously. The council is designed to meet at least three times per year. The meetings are to be held in each of the member states and in Geneva during the session of the League of Nations.

-The Secretariat of the Permanent Council, to perform the day-to-day routine operations of the Little Entente. In addition, a certain section of the secretariat to function permanently in the seat of the League of Nations.

-The Economic Council, by which the member states declared their will to co-ordinate its economic interests as well.

In addition, recognizing the importance of peace and security in Southern Europe, an invitation to the Little Entente shall be formally extended to the Kingdom of Greece.

CRISIS

War breaks out in the Balkans!
Accusing Hungary of hostility, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia stage surprise invasion

FOR: EUROPEAN PLAYERS

Despite a few years of relative calm across the Balkans, the historically complex neighborhood saw a steady rise in tensions all the way into the autumn of 1933, partly fueled by Hungarian Regent Miklós Horthy's denunciation of the Treaty of Trianon and the post-Great War dismemberment of the Kingdom. With said comments badly received by Hungary's neighbors - particularly the French-aligned Little Entente -, the growth of aggressive rhetoric has culminated in a most unexpected outcome: the start of war in the middle of a continent-wide Depression.

With border garrisons not yet in a state of full alert, Europe woke up to the surprising news - delivered by Belgrade - that Hungarian troops had attacked a number of border posts across the border, an act which King Alexander immediately denounced as an unprovoked act of aggression. A few hours later, and amidst protests from Budapest claiming innocence, the Yugoslav Royal Army crossed the border into Hungary in full force, seizing the border cities of Pecs and Szeged in what they have described to foreign diplomats as a defensive act. The matter, however, was far from limited to those two nations, with the Czechoslovak Army joining in the invasion from the North in a clear, urgent threat to Budapest itself.

An already stunned Hungarian public was enraged to extremes when the Yugoslav-Czech declaration of war arrived hours after "Allied" troops had crossed the border. With the Royal Hungarian Army kept limited due to Trianon - and international monitors having only left the country a years ago -, the Hungarian forces have been unable to mount a firm resistance thus far, placed at a disadvantage by the twin invasion and by a Yugoslavian military seemingly flush with resources. However, as the Allies advance deeper, it remains unclear just how effective Hungarian resistance will be in the end.

The Kingfish Speaks!

When we elected Mr. Roosevelt to be President we did so because he said he understood the problem that afflicts this country today. And it is not a difficult problem to understand! Had he worked from the start of his term in office towards the decentralization of wealth as he said he would, we probably would have solved all of the problems that affect the country by now. But instead, he has done nothing. No, worse than nothing. 20 million American men sit on the dole, worse than we have ever before. What does he do? He sends millions of the American working man’s tax dollars overseas. Any man who would help the poor people of this country by sending money overseas should have his head examined.

The Rockefellers and the Astors and the Morgans are laughing at us. They realize that Mr. Roosevelt’s plans aren’t costing them anything, which is the same as saying that they are no relief to the poor. He makes every kind of move showing he is creating this program and that; that he wants to appropriate a little money-so much for this and so much for that, but when you really look at it you see that he is simply taxing poor people to give things back to poor people, when he isn’t giving things to foreign kings. Mr. Roosevelt isn’t even willing to let foreign merchants contribute to our government; now, when our government debt is more than we owed at the end of the World War, he demands that the working man bear even more of the burden of paying it.

The big men of Wall Street were initially afraid of Mr. Roosevelt. When he closed down the banks, they were apprehensive that he would actually provide debt relief for the common man. That he would follow the Lord’s law. That "every seventh year there shall be a remission of debts; there will be no debts after 7 years." That was His law. But they had nothing to fear, for Mr. Roosevelt was not following the Lord’s law. He wasn’t doing much of anything for the people of this country. Because even though the banks were closed, he didn’t stop their debt collectors from coming, no sir. But the ultra rich didn’t need to worry about the banks being closed because they had enough wealth to do as they pleased, banks or no banks. And now, thanks to the bank closure they probably have a little bit more.

So now we have moved past the Hoover Depression. We’re past it. Where do we find this country in the Roosevelt Depression? We find ourselves a billion dollars more in debt with nothing to show for it. More men on the dole. The fortunes of the rich becoming bigger and the fortunes of the average and little men getting less and less. Mr. Roosevelt does nothing to address the problem. Mr. Roosevelt only needs to listen to God, the philosophers, and the great American statemen whose shoes he desperately tries to fill to know the real problem. When one man owns more than 100,000 people, or a million people, and when you have a country where there are four men, as in America, that have got more control over things than all the 120,000,000 people together, any sane man knows what the problem in this country is. And until Mr. Roosevelt does what needs to be done and scatters the wealth of this country to its people, the trouble he faces will never, ever go away.

Franklin Roosevelt, speaking in Philadelphia

Frankly, Governor, half your proposals are Communist in nature, and the other half are fascist in nature.

We are a Republic. For us to do what you are suggesting would defy the characteristics of the Republican form of our Government, and lead to a fascist dictatorship, not unlike what Mr. Mussolini has in Italy.

Shame on you.

We reiterate the United States's neutrality in the current conflict between Hungary, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia at this time.

We also wish to offer the United States as a neutral venue for any peace negotiations that may take place, and encourage all parties to seek a negotiated solution.

The fascist Horthy, much like his ideological cousin in Germany, falls victim to his own hubris.  The Soviet Union stands in firm solidarity against the fascist powers of central Europe.

His Serene Highness and Regent of the Kingdom of Hungary, Miklós Horthy, calls for total mobilization in the wake of invasion!

Quote
"My fellow and beloved God-fearing countrymen, today I, like the rest of the nation, has woken up to our homeland under siege and under invasion from all sides. In the most bizarre and outrageous turn of events, the Yugoslavs and the Czechoslovaks have invaded our country under the most outrageous of reasons. They, in their pursuit for Hungarian blood, have justified this crime against civilized societies by daring to accuse our brave men of attacking them across their borders unprovoked. Any sane and rational person knows that, despite our grievances with the aftermath of Trianon, we have fully respected the boundaries set between us and our neighbors. Yet, despite this, the treacherous snakes in Belgrade, once again, clamor for bloodshed in the Balkans as they had done 20 years ago. And we would be more than fools to assume they come with pure intentions. One can ask how the Croats, the Bosniaks, and the Albanians how life has fared under Serb tyranny. My people, should we lose this war, this will most certainly mean the end of not only an independent Hungarian nation, but also the end of a freely breathing Hungarian people. In this Third War for Independence, we cannot and must not shackle ourselves when our very freedom is at stake. As such, the military restrictions imposed on us by Trianon is considered null and void. Conscription of all-abled between the ages of 18 and 50 is to go into effect immediately. And the production of modernized arms and other assorted weaponry is mandated. The Hungarian people didn't want this war, yet, it was forced upon them. Yet, I'm proud to know that the Hungarian people shall endure through whatever sacrifices they'll have to make to get through this sudden turn of events. Thank you and may the Lord bless Hungary and the Hungarian people forevermore."

Speech of IL DUCE
Delivered Over the Radio

A Fascist is faithful to his friends, a Fascist honors his word and values his honor. When a Fascist makes a promise, he has no recourse but to honor it totally. In 1927 the Italian people took the hand of their Hungarian neighbor in friendship and pledged to protect and honor her sacred rights. The morality of a fascist is strong as steel. Today, Italy honors her commitment to her Hungarian friend. At the very least, we owe her the honor of telling the truth to Europe. The Belgrade propagandists, duplicitous cowards, utterly degenerate, have declared that they were attacked by the Magyars. This is a lie. Europe must know this to be totally false. There was no Hungarian attack on Yugoslavia, this is a fiction. The reality is, is that Belgrade and her cowardly associate Prague, have designed to destroy the spirit and independence of the Hungarian nation once and for all. Hungary, victimized by Trianon, Hungary, countless times the victim of crimes and oppressions, is now attacked again by a desperate conspiracy.

Men and women of Italy, in Hungary there is one man who keeps the nation together, who heroically resists the designs of communism, and who bravely defies the injustices of Trianon. His name is Miklós Horthy. This war is fought to remove him for the selfish gain of degenerate liberals in Prague and and an inept greedy monarch in Belgrade. This would be a total and complete disaster for Europe, Horthy is a great vanguard against Bolshevism, he stands like Caesar with righteousness and strength. His removal would be a victory for Stalin.

This war represents a total insult to the Italian people. We were never consulted by the Yugoslavians over anything, and we are treated as if it does not concern us. We will punish them for these crimes. The Kingdom of Italy will immediately seize certain Yugoslavian assets in Italy, end the sale of certain goods to Yugoslavia, and introduce economic and commercial sanctions in general. I have further ordered that Serbian expatriate organizations in Italy be immediately shutdown. The Yugoslavians have already insulted us before, with how they have deprived us of Italian Dalmatia. It is theft! It is a crime! It is deplorable! The Italy of Fascism refuses to be insulted. We would happily have friendly relations with Belgrade if they accepted that their destiny lies in the Aegean and not the Adriatic! Now they insist that they are entitled to dominance over the southern shores of the Danube! It is absurdity of the highest order. Italy shall not stand for it.

The King, the Kingdom, and I are utterly dedicated to peace in Europe. We are dedicated to the preservation of the rights and dignities entitled to Italy, we are for correcting the mutilated victory of 1918 in a diplomatic manner. We remain in contact with our diplomatic partners at all times. The Italian Legionnaire remains entirely at peace, but he is ready to take up the Gladius if need be to defend the dignity of the nation!

The United States demands a cease-fire in the war between Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Hungary immediately, and for all belligerents to agree to peace negotiations forthwith.
