https://nypost.com/2022/06/29/joe-rogan-backs-florida-gov-ron-desantis-for-president/

Quote
“Are you throwing out any support towards anyone or are you gonna hold off? Didn’t Elon Musk come out recently for DeSantis?” Carano asked.

“Yeah, I think Ron DeSantis would work as a good president,” Rogan responded. “I mean, what he’s done for Florida has been admirable.”

The response in the Rogan subreddit is basically 99% negative. It's hard to believe Reddit was considered rightwing a few years back. It's a neolib hivemind like Twitter now.

Lol at Twitter, which basically originated "neolib" as an insult for anyone to their right, being a "neolib hivemind." Same for reddit, which is mostly Bernie Bros still.

What you mean is they aren't brain dead Republicans. Brain dead leftists maybe, but that's still a significant step up.

Reddit was considered right-wing because the right-wing stuff is what gets attention outside of Reddit. It's always had a broad spectrum of views.

Joe Rogan's Reddit hates him anyway. Almost at Dave Rubin Resort level. Tulsi's Reddit are waking up. Peterson's Reddit still dominated by true believers, but with cracks recently.

Which is a good thing; these people aren't taking their supporters with them.

It definitely used to be more libertarian-leaning though. Major Ron Paul circlejerk in 2008 and 2012 among other things.

I doubt their subreddits represent their supporters as a whole.

Why not? Nobody, not a soul, cared about Rogan's political views until 2020. But until the vaccine controversy, he wasn't exactly seen as someone who advocates conservative viewpoints. He's had people all across the spectrum on his show anyway. From what I've seen (and it's been a while), he's generally been more critical towards conservative viewpoints and more apt to challenge theirs over liberals'.

Joe Rogan is also, well, an idiot. Howard Stern (he's a lefty now btw) but with slightly-less-overt sexual content and an even duller host. Yes, I can easily imagine Sanders-DeSantis voters now. Rogan is probably more in touch with the average American than anyone on this forum, and that's really sad.

Not until DeSantis stays in the R primaries and Rogan actually votes for him.

How can r/antiwork possibly be construed as right-wing?

As far as US politics is concerned, the prevailing vibe I’ve gotten on mainstream, apolitical subs in the last 8 years is somewhere between r/neoliberal and Bernie Bro.

That makes it all the more inexcusable that the left didn't try to win him over early on. Anyone paying attention could've told you as early as 2014 that he would end up being huge.

This. Remember when he said, "We can only reelect Donald Trump..."? Obviously that's not what he meant when you look at context, but it was an odd syntax.

The response in the Rogan subreddit is basically 99% negative. It's hard to believe Reddit was considered rightwing a few years back. It's a neolib hivemind like Twitter now.

Reddit was considered right-wing because the right-wing stuff is what gets attention outside of Reddit. It's always had a broad spectrum of views.

It definitely used to be more libertarian-leaning though. Major Ron Paul circlejerk in 2008 and 2012 among other things.
What basically happened is a lot of those types turned into alt-right and other associated sort of creeps (like MRAs and the like), also it attracted a bunch of MAGAheads thanks to r/The_Donald but then in 2017 Reddit started cracking down and banning those subs and of course eventually gave r/T_D the boot as well. So most of them left it. They also banned a few edgy leftist subs too (like the notorious r/ChapoTrapHouse that ceased to have anything to do with CTH for years and even the hosts of CTH hated and basically disowned), but unfortunately since the average tankie on Reddit is like some 15-year old with no friends and no life they were able to coordinate to take over modships and eventually stage entryist takeovers of a few subs (like r/TheRightCantMeme) and that drove the normie liberals and mainstream social democratic types off of those subs. However those still dominate the "mainstream" subs like r/news and r/politics.

Reddit was also briefly a hub of anti-Covid vaxx weirdos but most of them were banned/driven off too once their hubs (r/NoNewNormal) were banned.

Also a lot of people associate Reddit with stereotypical atheist edgelords but while there's still a lot, they have a lot less influence than they used to, like the infamous r/atheism is now mostly regarded as a joke by anyone not there and is kind of now a sort of walled off sub that everyone else just generally ignores like the tankie subs.

Here's my favorite story of Reddit politics:

r/minnesota was scooped up a long time ago by a poster who mostly ignored it despite being the main mod (I recall hearing that he didn't even live in Minnesota, just grew up there.) Then came Covid and he turned into an anti-masker and then after the vaccine an anti-vaccine, he was also a mod on r/NoNewNormal. So this meant when the vaccine was rolled out and people started making threads about vaccination sites he started paying attention to the sub again and deleting them and banning people for asking that, his excuse was that the sub was "turning into Craigslist" and that such threads were becoming spammy although of course that was a lame excuse since they could've just've been restricted to a megathread. He also regularly argued against the vaccine without his mod flair and got downvoted to hell but continued.

Even the other mods opposed him but were basically powerless to do anything. So a bunch of people set up r/stateofMN instead which became the "recognized" official Minnesota sub, like regional subs like for cities would include it instead of r/minnesota in its list of affiliated subs on the sidebar, etc. And once said mod heard about it he went there too and started posting anti-vax crap, so he was banned, he got angry, and he set up a bot that instantly banned anyone who posted there from r/minnesota, his excuse being that it's a "brigading" sub. Such autobans are actually a violation of Reddit ToS although many other subs do this and it's not strictly enforced. However this plus the attention brought to r/NoNewNormal finally got the admins to step in and demod him, the new mod who took over banned him, and then r/minnesota returned to being on good terms with the splinter sub and other regional subs. His account was later banned entirely for unknown reasons (likely using sock accounts to ban evade) and while it's not really difficult to get back on Reddit after such a ban and remain undetected that does mean his 15-year old account and all that karma went down the drain.

I've heard of other splits resulting in multiple subs for the same area as well. For example there's both an r/Seattle and r/SeattleWA because the original sub (r/Seattle) had a bunch of mods who were basically like that weird lady who ran for City Attorney and narrowly lost and her campaign staff who were even more extreme and were very supportive of CHAZ/CHOP to the point that they started defending the killing of unarmed black kids by their "security forces", so hence r/SeattleWA was set up. I don't follow either much obviously but I've heard things have gotten a bit more normal at r/Seattle since then with much of the crazy mods quitting Reddit in frustration but it still has enough of those weirdos to justify the continued split.

Regardless, it goes without saying he would support DeSantis over Biden if that's the matchup.
