In a generation the only Dutch parties with any representation anywhere will be splinters from VVD or CDA. jao

Anyway, BBB are just as cursed as any other political party with a four-leaf clover logo, though of course not in nearly the same way as Sweden's, which is more Sinema than Manchin (the only true political axis of our time). Actual agricultural politics were killed by deregulatory orthodoxy, replaced by mutant agribusiness concern troll lobbying for its own bloat and right to ensure the demise of all biomass not subservient to it in some form.

You're right of course, but BBB is still refreshing because it's a Dutch party experiencing a surge in popularity but it's neither explicitly for fash or for bobos. I forgot that was even possible.

In the 2021 Dutch general election, the Farmer–Citizen Movement focused its campaign on issues important to rural and agrarian voters, including pledges for a "Ministry of the Countryside" located at least 100 kilometers from The Hague, and a removal of the ban on neonicotinoids. The party called for a Right to Agriculture Act which would allow for farmers to have more say on agricultural expansion matters. This was in response to local opposition to pig and goat farms for public health, environmental and agricultural concerns.

On economics and foreign policy, the party supports reform of the Eurozone and calls for a "Northern currency and a Southern currency" in the European Union. It supports Dutch membership of the EU for trading purposes but wants to reduce the power of the EU "to a level of how the EEC was once intended" and opposes the EU becoming a Federal Superstate.

Caroline van der Plas has stated that the Party for the Animals and Wakker Dier are two of the party's biggest rivals, and the party uses its social media to provide the alternative perspective to be heard.

___

So the party's biggest rival is the "animal rights party" LOL which also somehow have 8 seats according to this polling. Instead of republicanism vs democrats... agrarians vs animal rights polarization?

Rural development

Someone said this and i think it's somewhat accurate, there were lots of agrarian protests.

Quote
BBB surges due to being the face of the opposition against the govt’s controversial plans to cut nitrogen pollution. These plans are needed as NL pollutes so much nitrogen that nature is dying and courts don’t allow construction projects. Most pollution comes from agriculture… so in order to reduce pollution, save nature and being able to build homes again (as NL has a very severe housing crisis, a big chunk of the agriculture sector has to close down. Several people are upset and identify with the farmers and BBB benefits of that sentiment.

I actually had a similar thought. Between Volt, Denk, the three separate far right parties, the Calvinist Taliban and Mark Rutte - the Netherlands doesn't get nearly enough credit for being the country that even the French look at and think, "wow, you guys really take the awful politics a bit far, don't you?".

Single-issue socioeconomic inertia politics in the name of Stability is certainly a poor ethos to build a political culture around, yes.

HP, but they are still far superior to Wilders' xenophobic liberalism and other terrible "anti-system" choices if compared.
