October 31, 2022: Former President Donald Trump Announces Stadium Rally in Miami

Former President Donald Trump has announced on his Truth Social page that he will hold a mega-rally on Veterans' Day, Friday, November 11, 2022. The rally will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, close to the former president's home in West Palm Beach. Sources close to the former president say this is set to be a "victory rally" for the incoming midterms, in which Republicans are likely to take back the House and Senate.

Aside from Donald Trump, special guest speakers include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, and Florida Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio. Appearances are also rumored from certain Republican Senate and gubernatorial candidates, assuming they win their respective races.

As many on social media and as many sources close to Trump have suggested, this rally could be where Trump officially announces his 2024 candidacy for President, as he has teased many times. Trump was initially set to announce as early as July 4, 2022, but was advised not to by advisers in order to not negatively impact the upcoming midterm elections.

November 8-9, 2022: 2022 Midterm Results

Senate:

Governors:

As expected, Republicans swept the House, Senate, and Governor seats in what was considered a "red wave" year, with 4 new Senate seats, 9 new governor seats (despite losing two in solid D states), and over 40 new House seats. President Biden expressed disappointment in the results in a statement, but also expressed the need for bipartisanship. Meanwhile, Donald Trump praised the results and called it a "great awakening for the MAGA movement." Trump plans to celebrate the midterm victory during the upcoming Miami rally on Friday, November 11.

November 11, 2022: DONALD TRUMP ANNOUNCES 2024 PRESIDENTIAL RUN

Wikimedia Commons

In what seemed to be expected by many attending Trump's Hard Rock Stadium rally in Miami, former President Donald Trump announced to the crowd of over 65,000 spectators that he would be seeking the presidency for a third time in 2024.

Trump's hour-long speech was typical for his energetic rallies-bragging about the midterm results, shouting out the major winning candidates for senate, governor, and even some House races, pointing out the major flaws of the Biden administration contrasted with Trump's successes as president from 2017-2021, and of course claiming the 2020 election was stolen. At the very end of the rally, Trump announced, to thunderous applause, that he would be running for president, and ending with the phrase "and we will Make America Great Again."

Since DeSantis attended this rally does this mean he won't be challenging Trump in '24 or will he still do it as he has been expected to do.

No, he will stay as governor. However, he will continue to build up his war chest for a 2028 run. He just had no interest in challenging Trump in this election.

November 12, 2022: Ron DeSantis Will Not Challenge Trump for Nomination, Is Open to Running Mate Consideration

Wikimedia Commons

In an interview with Fox News, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who just won re-election this past Tuesday, confirmed that he will not challenge Donald Trump for the Republican nomination, and gave him his "complete and total endorsement."

When asked if he was open to being Trump's running mate, DeSantis said that he was, but warned that Trump would need to change his home state from Florida to a different state in order for Florida's 30 electoral votes to not be forfeited.

While no official running mate has been announced yet, Trump has appeared with New York Rep. Elise Stefanik at several events, teasing the idea that Stefanik will be his running mate. Betting odds for Trump's running mate currently show Stefanik in the lead, followed by DeSantis, Alaska Rep. Sarah Palin, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.

November 20, 2022: Joe Biden, on 80th Birthday, Officially Announces Presidential Re-Election Bid

Wikimedia Commons

In a video posted to Joe Biden's official Twitter page, President Biden announced, on his 80th birthday, that he would be seeking re-election as President of the United States. The video touted Biden's accomplishments so far in his presidency, with Biden stating that he was able to get those done despite his old age. He also stated that he was mentally and physically more fit than Donald Trump, despite being 4 years older.

While not confirmed in the video, President Biden did confirm that Vice President Kamala Harris will once again be his running mate.

As of today, Joe Biden is now the first President of the United States to serve in his eighties. If re-elected, he will begin his second term at the age of 82, and finish it at the age of 86.

December 1, 2022: Democrat and Republican Politicians Tease Primary Runs

Following the announcements from Trump and Biden that they would once again seek the presidency, much of their respective parties instantly got behind them. However, certain candidates teased primary challenges.

Retiring Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) expressed on his Twitter page that he was not surprised about Trump announcing another run due to his narcissism, and expressed the need for a "sane" Republican candidate. Liz Cheney, who will also be leaving office in January after being defeated in the primary by Harriet Hageman, made similar remarks but confirmed she has no interest in the presidency as of now.

So far, outgoing Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is the only Republican politician who publicly teased interest for a run, and is likely to announce in the Spring of 2023 according to sources close to Hogan. Outgoing Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has not said anything recently about a presidential run, but sources close to him say he's expected to make a decision within the next few months as well.

As for the Democrats, only progressive activist and perennial House candidate Nina Turner has publicly threatened a primary challenge to Biden on Twitter, and appears to have already filed paperwork to run with an official announcement to come soon.

January 6, 2023: Adam Kinzinger Announces 2024 Presidential Run

Wikimedia Commons

Former Illinois Rep. (and founder of the Country First PAC) Adam Kinzinger has officially announced he will challenge Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination for President of the United States.

In an ad posted to his social media pages, a montage of the January 6th attacks are played as Kinzinger talks about the threats of the current Republican Party. Kinzinger goes on to express the need to return to the compassionate conservatism days of the old GOP (i.e. Ronald Reagan, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and both George Bush's) and steer clear of what he refers to as "cultish conservatism" (i.e. Trumpism), which he perceives as a "threat to democracy."

This makes Adam Kinzinger the first Republican to challenge Trump in the primary. It is speculated that others will join too.

January 6, 2023: Liz Cheney Officially Leaves Republican Party

Wikimedia Commons

In a thread posted to her personal Twitter page, Former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney tweeted a lengthy essay comparing the Republican Party of the past and the failures of the Republican Party of today coinciding with the rise of Trumpism. In a nod to Ronald Reagan, Liz Cheney ended her thread by stating "I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me." Hours later, she confirmed that she registered as an Independent.

It is unknown what Cheney's political future looks like, but sources close to her have said that she does not plan on running for political office again anytime soon, but vows to continue her activism. It is speculated that Cheney will become a television political commentator, either on MSNBC, CNN, or The View.

Current Major Candidates:

Republicans:

Former President Donald Trump of Florida
Former Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois

Democrats:

President Joe Biden of Delaware

July 23, 2023: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Rules Out Presidential Run, Endorses Nina Turner for President

Wikimedia Commons

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), in a thread posted to her Twitter page, announced she would not run for President of the United States in 2024 due to "other commitments," and endorsed her progressive ally Nina Turner, whom she called "a great friend, ally, and fighter."

Rumors started swirling following her thread, especially since AOC had not already announced a congressional re-election bid yet. It is speculated that she intends to challenge incumbent Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for the Democratic Senate nomination.

August 1, 2023: First Republican Primary Debate

Wikimedia Commons

The first Republican primary debate was held at the George W. Bush Presidential Center, located on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. All Republican candidates, with the lone exception of clear frontrunner Donald Trump, participated in the debate.

Many conservative commentators labeled the debate as a "Trump-Hating Competition" due to the number of times each candidate mentioned and/or criticized Donald Trump (some more than others).

Many viewers suggested that there were no winners or losers to the debate as all candidates seemed to give similar performances and agreed (for the most part) on most issues.

However, to many Democrat viewers, Adam Kinzinger was the clear winner, with Larry Hogan in a close second place. Kinzinger bashed Trump the most out of any candidate, calling him a racist, a criminal, pro-Putin, pro-Russia, and a domestic terrorist and insurrectionist due to the events of 1/6. Kinzinger also criticized President Biden for not going far enough on the issue of Ukraine, stating that Biden should've immediately sent troops to Ukraine to assist the Ukrainian army in defeating the Russian army. Chris Sununu disagreed, stating that while he supported Ukraine and its people, sending troops to Ukraine would've escalated the situation further, possibly increasing the risk of nuclear war between Russia and the United States.

Kinzinger also called for the Republican Party to abandon Trumpism altogether and return to the "compassionate conservatism" days of George W. Bush, while also calling for more bipartisanship in Washington. Most of the other candidates delivered similar remarks as well.

After the debate, Adam Kinzinger and Larry Hogan saw a boost in donations from Democrats. Donald Trump, who watched the debate, called the debate "a freak show," with many conservative pundits echoing his remarks.

Rather interesting, but shouldn't Nina Turner consider running for Congress first before challenging Biden? Last I checked, she lost badly to Shontel Brown in OH-11.

Also, not surprised about Don Bacon for Sasse and French Hill for Hutchinson (which might actually doom the latter especially if someone like Jake Bequette (former NFL player and Super Bowl ringholder-turned-Army officer who should have defeated John Boozman but didn't...damn based establishmentarian Arkies!) were to challenge Hill. But Dan Crenshaw endorsing Kinzinger would be fatalistic...there is a greater chance of Crenshaw endorsing Beto O'Rourke in any race than he would Kinzinger. In my TL ("A Blank Canvas"), Crenshaw has thus far run for Senate and won his primary in a runoff against the more conservative Lance Gooden (and for which his primary was marred by a riot and lewd behavior by Alex Jones at a debate on the UH campus).

Also will be curious to know whether or not either Trump or the "Stop Trump" gaggle splits away and how this affects whichever group holds the Republican title, and whether or not Andrew Yang's candidacy actually makes Biden even more dependent on AOC and her "Squad"...

Lastly, on Liz Cheney...what more can I say? Bye, Felicia! Remember what she did to Thomas Massie in 2020...

September 12, 2023: Second Republican Primary Debate

Wikimedia Commons

The second Republican primary debate was held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California (outside Los Angeles). The main theme of this debate involved the direction of the Republican Party, with all candidates agreeing that Trumpism needed to be abandoned.

The main highlight of the debate, however, was when all candidates were asked if they would support Donald Trump if he won the nomination, in which no hands were raised by any candidates. This move got lots of praise from Democrats, but lots of criticism from Republicans. Chris Sununu, who supported Trump in the 2020 election, called Trump's post-election behavior "barbaric," and said that he would never support Trump again and regrets supporting him in 2020.
