In early 2012, there was speculation that a disorderly Greek withdrawal from the Eurozone to deal with its sovereign debt crisis would trigger a 50% fall in euro stocks and slow global growth in the process. How would the 2012 election have been effected by another recession starting that spring? Moreover, how would it effect the primaries? Super Tuesday would probably be over for Republicans by the time this hit, and it might be too late for Sanders to challenge Obama as he later admitted he considered at the time, but there were still a few primaries and the convention left to go.
