This is exactly why Biden's approval #s right now should not be used for any proxy of Democratic support.

(his approval is 53/47 in this poll)

The election as a whole is Lean R if it's Biden vs. Trump again. But Massachusetts is still Safe D.

Biden is not really popular here at all in MA - and I'm talking about everyday Boston residents - but he's not unpopular because he's a liberal or because of his views on certain issues.

You ask people about him and they will tell you he's too old, or they'll just shrug... he just doesn't have that much enthusiasm here.

Up against the Republican, he's an automatic "Yes" vote - it becomes an ideological vote, but he would not survive a Democratic primary in the state of Massachusetts if there were a lot of other better candidates.

This looks very similar to the VA 2021 swing.

Except that Massachusetts is a state notorious for DINOs, "Kennedy Democrats," modern yellow dogs, whatever you want to call them. That type of disapproving-Biden-voter probably doesn't live far beyond the Connecticut River.

There is also a solid chunk of far-left voters, which can be found in other states, but MA is the sort of place you'd expect this gap to be disproportionately high.

This is also a match-up with Trump, who is uniquely unpopular with Massachusetts independents. Don't think it'll trickle down ballot.

There's your problem.

No it’s a toss-up still. It’s Lean R for Biden vs. DeSantis.

Every now and then I still see a car with a Biden-Harris bumper sticker, and most of the time the driver is a boomer.
