There were women who he was running against.

Probably because his number one opponent was a man. Also everyone forgot but Bernie Sanders was the frontrunner in 2020 and he probably could have won the nomination had he put up more of a fight. Sanders won 3 of the 4 early voting states and as a result, he was the number one target of the rest of the field. Biden on the other hand came in fifth place in Iowa.

Hot take: Because no women came close to the nomination

Had Biden had to fight it out state by state (no COVID) with someone like Klobuchar or Harris I bet an army of their supporters would call him sexist. Probably not Warren, not her style to say something false and dumb

Because Biden was beneath notice most of the time, and none of the women really had a chance.

Didn’t she say something about the supposed “Sanders misogyny” or something?

He was. Lucy Flores said he sexually groped her, whilst some Bernie supporter claimed he sexually assaulted her. Of course, both those were in service of Bernie, another male. And the latter accuser turned out to be somewhat of a nutcase and Russian agent. But if they had had their way Bernie would've been the nominee and probably lost.

Are you talking about Tara Reade? She accused Biden after the primaries were over, and I thought she supported Trump, not Sanders.

Reade didn't support Trump, she was a Bernie supporter iirc.

COVID blotted out the sun right after this dropped, effectively ending the MeToo era.  Assuming a closer SC and Super Tuesday result, Biden could have reasonably lost to a female candidate based on this in an extended in-person campaign with no COVID.
