It only allows you to upload a race once, even if you need to upload it again due to an error.

Hm. Database problems occur with the upload of a 7 candidate Republican primary map for the Kansas Governor's race from 2006.

The map comes up, but none of the other links go to a working page.

Now that's testing the system.

And I did get one map posted:

https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=1998&off=7&elect=0&fips=12&f=0

Although the really really long FL SOS page URL didn't come though.

The messege for when I try to enter corrected data is "Error: This election data is already entered into the database"

And happier days for at least one Texas Democrat:

https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=1994&off=6&elect=0&fips=48&f=0

And a better day for Max Cleland: https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=1994&off=7&elect=0&fips=13&f=0

and for Mike Bowers too: https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=1994&off=9&elect=0&fips=13&f=0

Mahoney was a little known businessman who talked about being a "classic liberal" and wanting the Attorney General to investigate elections.

Dunn was a former legislator who was little known.

Ok, either I did something wrong on this entry, or there's something wrong with the script

https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=1984&off=3&elect=0&fips=21&f=0

The map shows up, the results table doesn't

It only allows you to upload a race once, even if you need to upload it again due to an error.

I've added the ability to over-write the data (if you were the person who entered it).  If you find an error in data that someone else submitted, please post it here, or email me.  This script change deletes all the old data before re-writing it - so be sure that you enter all the info again.

I get this messege when I try re-entering info for one race:

"Error: Geographic type Type for Name is not in database. Please check spelling or email Dave

Errors Encountered. Data not entered. Please correct and resubmit."

Also note: avoid posting Gubernatorial and Senatorial contests in the 1990s as they will be added in bulk soon.
Dave
Texas Tresurer Races are fair game though: https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/state.php?year=1994&off=8&elect=0&fips=48&f=0

Texas data is pretty easy to gather. Nothing like the Mississippi data (the ones that are still on photocopied handwritten precinct returns)

I've actually gotten pretty good at coloring Missouri in paint.

Places like Texas and Georgia are massive paints to manually color though.

Looks like Louisiana should be surprisingly easy too, considering that they have 9 different counties starting in St. (but the only other S county is Sabine).

Granted, Louisiana results also include having to creatively re-sort the results due to the table they have.

Missouri's results are also pretty good, although there's some column deleting required. And the initative results have spaces after the number for one column and spaces before the number in the other.

Kansas has their results back to 1990 and the older stuff is in some sort of .exe zip-ish file that just creates an .xls

Does your file start with the results from a county, and not the listing of what is in which column?

And what I was doing in Excel to get rid of the commas was typing in one uncomma'ed number, and then I'd cover all the numbers, and press 'increase decimal' and it gets rid of the commas.

God bless SoS Sam Reed for putting county results for Washington up back to 1970.

I'll be up all night too.  Tongue

Thanks again, Dave!

Washington has an odd format, at least for the 1980 primary results.

the difference between making a map and entering data involves the minor parties.

That's why there's gaps in data from 1920 to 1936. The data is there to make a map, but not to totally enter data. Due to third parties and such.

The CQ Database numbers I have has the following results

Queens: Buckley 44, Ottinger 39, Goodell 17
Tompkins: Buckley 46, Goodell 32, Ottinger 22
Westchester: Buckley 45, Ottinger 37, Goodell 18

I forget what happened with Yates, because the results are Buckley 44, Goodell 34, Ottinger 22.

So i'll probably need to correct that.

I have no idea how I managed this. but it should be deleted.

Commas in the file, probably.

As for future results, the NY Gov 1994 results should be a lot of fun. Two hints here.

Cuomo wins NYC big (70/28), Pataki wins the rest of the state big (57/35)

The 1990 NY Gov results should be interesting in map form.

Cuomo won every county except the following in 1990.

Rinfret counties: Allegany, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Essex, Herkimer, Lewis, Orleans, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, Yates
London counties: Cayuga, Greene, Hamilton, Oswego, Wyoming

And the CQ database county results didn't include anything from Jefferson or Niagara counties. Preventing a map.

As for 1986 (where Cuomo won 65/32): O'Rourke won Delaware, Greene, Hamilton, Sullivan, and Washington Counties.

Spitzer won 4 of those counties.

Yeah, I figure the county changes may be one thing slowing down Texas maps too.

That, and the claim of no results for El Paso in 1924.

And, somewhat off topic, Louisiana has their 1987 runoff election online but not the general. Strange...

Edwards refused to go a runoff with Roemer in 1987

I don't think the script can upload results from O'Brien County Iowa due to the comma.

Hm, can someone delete this. I accidentally put this in with the wrong race title. And I did but Taylor/Cox in for the Gubernatorial race. It's just that there's no Senate primary for 2006 to put in to overwrite this info.

Hit the plus sign on the left side.

Also, after you've put into the columns (in the form of numbers without commas).. copy all the info and paste it into a txt file.

Actually it's probably easier to hit "Save As" and then choose a Text File as the format.

Also the top line is just a guide for you when entering. It should be deleted before uploading.

True.

But either way, you get to the same destination. Wink

My 1990 and 1992 Missouri maps are a demonstration of the power of taking digital camera photos of pages from a reference book.

It took me a time or two to figure out how to take photos where the text doesn't disappear from the flash.

So basically i'd move the photos onto my computer, and then I would keep that picture in a window and then I'd go though a spreadsheet to type in nymbers.
