Very cool...although I'm a little confused.

I may be doing something entirely wrong, or my software is corrupting the CSV files somehow...but I did them in what I think is the correct format, and I'm still getting failure on everything.  No commas or anything.  I cannot seem to find the place in Excel where the UNIX line character is customised.  RBH, can you help me out here?

I am also getting the inability to upload issue.

Excellent.  I got it to work, with the tables working too...but the "county data by graphs" function seems to error out.

God bless SoS Sam Reed for putting county results for Washington up back to 1970.

I'll be up all night too.  Tongue

Thanks again, Dave!

Dave - How do you want us to handle years with more than 5 initiatives?

EDIT: Also, there's probably no need to have the Compare County Data by Year feature for initiatives, since it just spits back a table with the same results repeated for every year that there are any initiative results for that state.  Same goes for measures and referendums.

A request; I'd like to see county maps of the 1980 and 1970 Senate races in New York. Anyone got county data for those?

I actually think I had those somewhere (someone sent them ages ago), but I can't find them.  I'll look again.

I'm sad.  The Washington Secretary of State page decided to remove the county results-back-to-1970 archive yesterday for no apparent reason.  I'll have to yell at them on Monday.  I was planning to use this weekend to input every initiative since 1970.  Sad

Dave, I know this is probably nowhere on the radar, but I have precinct results for minor offices and initiatives for 2004, and some for 2000, that I'm considering compiling.  Same with town/city data.  I can do this if you'd get to them eventually.  If not, that's fine.  Just something to occupy my time with while I'm still bed-ridden.

In spite of my New York roots, I do not have these elections at this time.

Alcon - are you ill?  If so, hoping for a speedy recovery.  I was actually distracted today by the amazing 72 degree outdoor temperature!  Unbelievable January day here in Boston.

Yeah - I've been sick for months, but I got food poisoning on top of it yesterday.  No fun.  72 degrees sounds pretty nice right now - we might get a rare snow in a few days.

How about working on Oregon?  1996 - present are on-line and I have complete pdf copies of the 1990 and 1994 Official Abstract of Votes from OR.

I'm on it.  Smiley  It will give me some practise on learning the Oregon county map better too.

Did you complete the precinct returns for WA Senate in 2006?

Cowlitz and Grays Harbor are supposed to be in the mail (holiday season delayed this significantly).  The rest are all in.

Dave,

Thanks!  Feel free to email them now.  I'll get to them either today or very soon, depending on whether I'm lucid enough.  Cheesy

Commas in the file, probably.

Yeah, but it took impressive stupidity on my part to do that AND upload it as the 1990 Senate special election instead of 1994 General AFTER I had uploaded it correctly.  I don't even remember doing it.  Tongue

Thanks, Dave.

Dave,

Thanks, but Montana appears to be undownloadable (no permissions).  I'll work on Oregon some more.

Thanks Dave.

Tied results are still showing up as empty, by the way.  Smiley  I'm not sure if that's been reported yet...

Montana is going great - the spreadsheet format really helps.

You mean that Owyhee County doesn't like Bears that much?

No, they love bears and the environment.

And are the only county to buck every other voting trend on those maps.

#%@!

Thanks for the change data script.  That will make this a little easier.  Tongue

EDIT: It will be until later in the day when I have access to the computer with the MT files.  I'll try to make a macro and see if I can swap the two lines automatically, but for now I'll add Delaware.

EDIT 2: The DE 2000 file needs read rights too.  Thanks Smiley

Done.  Note that with Delaware, later years separate out the City of Wilmington from New Castle County.  You'll need to add the two for the New Castle figure.

Yeah, that's a little annoying.  In earlier years, they also don't provide the losing candidate's full names - just the last names.  There doesn't appear to be any place online with this information.  Is it OK to just enter their last names for now, and update them when they're found?

It would be nice to have a quick way to change the title for idiots like me who can't spell or in instances where initiatives could be better-named.

This needs to be transferred to 1991 (the SoS site lists the year incorrectly).

Additional bugs:

- Initiative titles with apostrophes do not show up at all
- 1980s years without population generate MySQL errors

Here is an example of the apostrophe bug.

By the way, Jesus, you might want to use the new feature to fix "Socialistt Workers" on the last Louisiana one you did (with all the colors).
