The NDP and Libs will work together for at least 3 years, unless the Liberals are very confident that they'll win a Majority. My predicition is this minority government will last 2-3 years.

The Liberals may be Center-Left but they also want to govern, they'll work with the NDP.

And Canada has only gotten better since the 1970s. Outside of those dark days of Mulrooney. Besides, I'm Canadian, I think I'd know, and so would my family if things had become terrible.
