I've been watching some of the election coverage and someone was saying MP.  What's an MP?

Because people like him are not on our side.

I wonder if you still think the merger was a good idea Tongue

It was a terrible idea! All the remnants of our party is gone.

I had to vote Liberal, which makes me very mad! I  just couldn't vote for Harper's party. I feel better about it because I voted against a Dutch guy

A year or two, longer than was expected.

If it was a minority govt held up by the BQ, it'd be tomorrow Wink

I think the NDP can work with the Libs for a year or so.

I personally don't think the NDP and the Liberals will go together. We will find out soon enough though.

Well, it looks like the Liberals will win then.  I'd say the key was that voters didn't care much about the sponsorship scandal, and were more concerned about how Mr. Harper was too conservative on Charter issues.  Wait, what the hell am I talking about?

Oh well, forget Canada.  It is a silly place.

The NDP and Libs will work together for at least 3 years, unless the Liberals are very confident that they'll win a Majority. My predicition is this minority government will last 2-3 years.

That is probably how the moderate Democrats in the U.S. felt in 1994 when the Republicans wiped out most of the Dem moderates, especially in the South, and left the party dominated by NDPleft-wing nutcases from safe leftist urban districts. Note how the Dems haven't won back control of the House in 4 elections since then? You have my sympathy, Beaver. Smiley

And on a Modified note: how will the presence of the anti-American leftist NDP in the government affect U.S.-Canadian relations? I predict things will get even chillier...

John Ford,

It IS a silly place, but it wasn't always like that. In the 1970's and 1980's this was a wonderful country to visit. It's such a shame what it has become. They have gone from being America's little brother to being Europe's retarded cousin all over the course of two generations...so sad.

Quebec is not the only place that has francophones in Canada.  The NDP did win the Acadie-Bathurst riding in New Brunswick on the Quebec border.

Noticed the Liberal-NDP combined number now sits at 155...

If I were Harper...I'd continue in a semi-campaign mode...keep the lines open to the BQ and see if they can eventually (at a good time for both) force a new election.

Especially if the supposed coalition number falls behind the post.

Barring any reversals on recount, 155+ for the LPC/NDP combination looks firm.  The CBC website shows 154 firm ridingsright now and at least one of the others, Western Arctcic is a firm tossup between the LPC and the NDP.  Still this is a parliament that could be brought down by a by-election or two even if the LPC and NDP don't want it.

All it takes is one important bill (Clark learned that in 1979). The Liberals are a centrist party for Canada.

Harper should continue to tour the country in quasi campaign mode...wait for something like a budget or regional devolution bill to come up...and try to siphon off some of the more conservative liberals...just enough to convince Martin he needs to hold another election.

Actually the NDP/LPC Coalition is exactly at 155 seats because the Liberals need to nominate a speaker of the house who does not vote unless there is a tie. Also, if martin is implicated in the Adscam and sponsorship scandals when the report is released we may see the NDP rethink it's posistion on an informal government. I don't think even then the NDP would stand in the way of a no confidence vote.
