Do you know the indirect motive for the Brazilian soccer jersey being yellow?
Well, it's the color of the House of Habsburg
Let me explain: the color yellow was choosen in 1953, because of the color of yellow losangle in the Brazilian national flag.
The rectangle in the flag is green because it's the color of the House of Brangança, where emperor Pedro I (1822-1831) belongs, and the losangle is yellow because it's the color of the House of Habsburg, where consorte empress, the Austrian Leopoldina, Pedro's wife, belongs.

Austria played in the World Cup last time in 1998. Since the austrians can't see their national team in the world cup, they might support the Brazilian national team, because it carries something from Austria in the jersey.

Probably, in Group A, Netherlands will have 9 points, Qatar will have 0, and Ecuardor and Senegal will contest the 2nd place. In Group B, England can have 9 points, Iran 0, and USA and Wales will contest the 2nd place.

We shouldn't underrate the AFC national teams. The 5th of the AFC, Australia, won against the 5th of the Conmebol, Peru, in the penalty kicks in the qualifier.

For those who like to support the poorer country in games your country isn't playing, I bring this table to help you in your choice.
I don't have separate data for England and Wales, so, the GDP per capita of UK is included in this table

Belgium vs Canada

If the game didn't tie, we know that the winner will be a country that partially speaks French

FIFA opens investigation into allegedly homophobic chants by Mexico fans

Look, there should be no place for homophobia, if such chants were made. But if FIFA takes disciplinary action against Mexico, justified or not, FIFA has no moral high ground to claim on these matters

But FIFA accepted the World Cup in Qatar, a country that doesn't allow the rainbow flag.

It's like punishing flatulence and accepting defecation.

The first game of the Brazilian national team in the history of the World Cups was
Yugoslavia 2 Brazil 1 in 1930
Brazil played against Yugoslavia in World Cup many times and there was never an easy game against them.

Very good start.
The first goal came not early because Serbia is not a bad team.
But the defense was safe and goalkeeper Alisson almost didn't have to work.

Neymar and Daniel Alves endorsed Bolsonaro and we know that some other players support him.
Only 1 of the 26 players openly endorsed Lula: Richarlisson, the one who scored the 2 goals today.

Qatar is already eliminated. What a pathetic host team.

It's Qatar. They probably only have 300 fit men of sporting age to choose from.

Sparta had also 300 very fit men

And they lost too

Germany vs. Spain ended 1:1 was actually a pretty good, high-energy match. Didn't expect us to do that well, especially towards the end. So Germany needs Spain to beat Japan now and win against Costa Rica in order to stay on.

Germany's probability to go to the next round is not low

This is the population and the age piramid of Uruguay. The country has only 620K men between 15 and 40 years old. It needs to find very good 26 soccer players in this small group in order to have a good national team. Uruguay's team overperforms.

Tweet of a Brazilian comedian:

"Hey, Wales!
Show your independence certificate otherwise we will send the squad of Sergipe in the next World Cup"

Sergipe is the smallest Brazilian state in land area

Germany has solidarity to Italy.

When Italy fails to qualify for the World Cup, Germany fails to qualify for the 2nd round.

Since the World Cup has 32 national teams, there is a curse for the national teams which defeated Brazil

France 1998: eliminated in the 1st round in 2002
France 2006: eliminated in the 1st round in 2010
Germany 2014: eliminated in the 1st round in 2018
Belgium 2018: eliminated in the 1st round in 2022

Only Netherlands 2010 escaped this curse.

In 2014, due to the 7 X 1, president Dilma Rousseff spread the curse to Germany, so that its national team fails to reach the 2nd round in the 2 following World Cups

Tite decided to use to B-team so that the A-team can rest until the next game on Monday. But Switzerland was very close to send Brazil to play against Portugal.

Concerning the games of group H, despite the fact South Korea can be an easier opponent, I am disapointed because I was expecting to see a South American classic Brazil vs Uruguay

Cameroon decided to optimize it by simultaneously defeating Brazil and being eliminated.

Not the first time. There was Norway in 1998. But they were eliminated in the 2nd and not in the 1st round.

The results I expect
Netherlands 3 X 1 USA
Argentina 3 X 0 Australia
England 2 X 1 Senegal
France 3 X 0 Poland
Japan 1(3) X 1(4) Croatia
Brazil 1 X 0 South Korea
Morocco 1 X 2 Spain
Portugal 0(4) X 0(5) Switzerland

I am not rooting for all results I expect. I am rooting for Argentina, Senegal, Japan, Brazil, Morocco, Portugal. I am neutral in Netherlands vs USA, and France vs Poland. I have a preference for the poorer countries. But I like the Japanese team. And I won't root for Poland because I don't like the ideology of the most recent polish governments.

Yes, for the first time there are countries from all the continents in the round of 16. North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. There is no country of the confederation of Oceania, since Australia belongs to the Asian Confederation, but there one country of the continent Oceania.
Only Antarctica is not in the round of 16, but there is no fixed population of human beings in that continent.

Another fact: in this group of 16, only Switzerland is a landlocked country. No landlocked country won the World Cup yet.

Only 2 games in this Round of 16 is between equals, no upsets, hard to predict the winner

Japan vs Croatia
Portugal vs Switzerland

The first of these games was decided in the penalty shoots
