Makes sense when you consider they were coming out of hundreds of thousands of years of slavery in the gold mines in service of their ancient alien overlords who finally were forced to abandon their operations after the great flood and taught them agriculture. I think that would take a toll and it might take a little while to adjust to normal life after that sort of experience.
