Also, Trump was not impeached just because they wanted it, but also because the political climate allowed it and a majority of Americans supported it (both times). Of course, Republicans are not the majority party and function well enough by appealing to a big enough minority of voters, but still: Impeachment is a big risk, and most Republican senators are reasonable enough to have a sense of the political climate.
