Why wasn’t the Hochulmander upheld? NY’s highest court is 6/7 Democrats. Surely a Texas or Florida court would not overturn a GOP gerrymander, why would NY be different?

Unlike Texas, New York has an anti-gerrymandering provision in its Constitution. And unlike Florida the map did not look clean or compact.

Again, FL is still up in the air. DeSantis clearly broke the law and the judges can't be total complete hacks as we saw with this lower court Judge in FL

Can we put this talking point to rest already? You'd think every online conservative is on DeSantis's payroll. FL-14 is obviously not clean or compact, neither is FL-07 frankly.

Because technocratic liberals are fundamentally useful idiots that will choose what keeps their hands the cleanest over the good of the nation every damn time.

And again, it doesn't matter. The Jacksonvillemander is an egregious violation in itself. I'm not sure what the rules are regarding partisan fairness but even if there are no rules its hard for me to see a majority of that court upholding FL-4/5

Also I think even a cleaner gerrymander would have been struck down in NY tbh. They viewed us as having violated the process and there was no getting around that

Florida's map is very compact for the most part, actually. Now, if you want a map that's not clean or compact, just look at Illinois

Every conservative talking about redistricting has a dialogue tree. Clean and compact, partisan fairness is fake, counties don't matter, water doesn't matter except when it does, let's start talking about Illinois now.

Yes, because a district that goes from Danville to Hyde Park is the epitome of fairness.

It's definitely not fair! But it's also irrelevant. It would be like if I brought up Texas in the Illinois thread. Everyone knows Democrats gerrymander too, that has nothing to do with whether the Florida map is fair/legal or not.

Because the state had a law banning it on the books and Hochul and the legislature just basically went "Lol, don't wanna". It was a state issue, not a larger one about gerrymandering.

1) We can’t have ‘fair’ federal maps until everyone has fair maps.

It’s not like the house of Reps is only from Illinois or New York or whatever. If one state is draws maps to favor their majority party and the other draws maps to be representative, what you’ve done is created an aggregate map that favors the dominant party in the former state.

2) You’ve accidentally stumbled ass backwards into a better question. Is not more fair to run an ugly looking district from eg the Metro-East to Springfield and combine them into a single urban centers district rather than have all three drown out by the rural hinterlands? Congressmen represent people not trees, and I think it’s fair to assume that the voters of Belleville and Springfield will have more influence over their local congressman than they did in their old districts. Community of interest should trump compactness, as the later doesn’t really mean much other than making maps look pretty.

Yes and every dipsh**t that thought the solution to red state gerrymandering is to make sure Republicans in blue states get a fair shake should shut the hell up right about now.

It was technocrats DINOS.  If anything this is pretty similar to the 2016 florida map strike down.

Neither metro east  nor Sangamon even voted for Biden. They get drowned out by their own metroes. Either way ill cook up a good fair map
