I'm sure someone must've already asked this but what would've happened if Trump had passed away from Covid in early October 2020 when he got sick with the virus? Obviously Pence would've become president and I'm pretty sure the republican party would've quickly rallied around him as the nominee. I'm also fairly sure he would've selected Niki Haley as his running mate, but would he have been able to win that election? Would he have gotten a sympathy boost from the death of the previous president in the same way LBJ did, or was Trump too controversial for that? Would Bidens unity message be as effective against Pence, it was a close election result in the real world maybe Pence makes it over the line or maybe the Trump voters are less motivated to turn out for Pence? What do you think?

President Mike Pence (R-IN) / Fmr. UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (R-SC)
Fmr. Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE) / Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) ✔

Most of the Trump movement would believe that the government had him killed and that Pence was complicit, probably, which electorally benefits Biden.
