SAIL GRAND PRIX
PRE-RACE WEEK (FEBRUARY 13 - FEBRUARY 17)

It's that time again! It's RACE WEEK in SAIL GP! The AUSTRALIA SAIL GRAND PRIX presented by KPMG does have a different tone as we are getting close to the business end of Season 3. By Sunday Night/Early Monday Morning in the US we may or may not know who can qualify for the Grand Final in San Francisco on May 6/7 2023 and who can't. We already know that the SPAIN SAIL GP TEAM as well as the SWITZERLAND SAIL GP TEAM have been eliminated with both Teams looking ahead to Season 4.

If you a regular Watcher of SAIL GP (its broadcasted on CBS Sports in the US) I am well aware that seeing these boats drifting in 5 knots of breeze like we saw on the 1st Day in Singapore and in other Events throughout the Season is no fun at all for the Sailors on the Boats as well as the Fans but it is part of the Game. Just like in F1 or MOTOGP Racing you have to be good in all conditions to be crowned Season Champion.

I have good News though: Sydney will deliver quite a spectacle this weekend with solid 15-20 Knots of wind, about 35-45 kph.

As always in this Post I'll provide all the Pre Race Chatter!

FIVE STORIES TO WATCH IN SYDNEY

# 1 The SPAIN SAIL GP TEAM has a new Driver in Diego Botin. How will this first Event go for Botin?

# 2 Can the newly rebranded EMIRATES GREAT BRITAIN SAIL GP TEAM beat the AUSTRALIA SAIL GP TEAM on their Home Waters? They were the only Team to beat them on home soil in 2020!

# 3 The CANADA SAIL GP TEAM & the NEW ZEALAND SAIL GP TEAM have new Boats under their hood. Will that have any impact on their Performances?

# 4 The Race for Third: Currently the EMIRATES GREAT BRITAIN SAIL GP TEAM sits in 3rd and therefore would qualify for the all-important Grand Final in San Francisco in May. They only sit 1 Point above the FRANCE SAIL GP TEAM in 4th and 4 Points ahead of the DENMARK SAIL GP TEAM presented by ROCKWOOL in 5th so the battle between those 3 Teams is something to watch out.

# 5 HOME SWEET HOME: The AUSTRALIA SAIL GP TEAM enjoys Home Advantage this weekend. Thus far their Record is 2 Wins (2019 & 2021) and 1 Loss (2020)

On a Sidenote: If any of our Australian Talk Elections Users live in the great City of Sydney or in the Greater Sydney Area and you have some Spare Time get up there and watch. You are going to see the most enthralling & exhilarating racing you will probably ever see in your life. These Boats are really like an F1 Car on water except that the Race Track they're racing on is waaay smaller compared to an F1 Race Track.
I lived in Sydney for a couple of years from 2006 to 2008 and I still consider it one of the most beautiful Cities ever I was fortunate to live in. Watched the Start of two Sydney to Hobart Classics in 2006 & 2007. Sydney Harbour is amazing, one of the best Venues to do Sailboat Racing.

Waited all year to watch it on 7Mate. Then they cancelled it and put on fat faced fishing shows with guys who smile too much for the banal entertainment they are providing.

Basically TV filler instead.

SAIL GRAND PRIX
PRE-RACE WEEK (MARCH 13 - MARCH 17)

We have arrived at the penultimate SailGP Event of Season 3, the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix in Christchurch/Lyttelton.

10 Season Championship Points are up for grabs this weekend and another 10 at the Season 3 Final Event in San Francisco so realistically speaking 4 Teams still have a chance to qualify for the Grand Final 1M $ Race at the end of Season 3:

  • NEW ZEALAND SAIL GP TEAM
  • FRANCE SAIL GP TEAM
  • EMIRATES GREAT BRITAIN SAIL GP TEAM
  • DENMARK SAIL GP TEAM

The CANADA SAIL GP TEAM & the UNITED STATES SAIL GP TEAM have only a remote chance making the Grand Final.

As always in this Post I'll provide all the Pre Race Chatter!

BREAKING NEWS
SAIL GP ORGANIZERS REVEAL FINAL SEASON 4 SCHEDULE
Source: SAIL GP
Source: SAIL GP

Statement by ANDY THOMPSON, Sail GP Managing Director:

„The fact that we are again expanding our season from 11 to 12 events, and now have many multi-year agreements in place, shows the continued demand to host events and the strong momentum the league continues to experience. The impressive array of global locations and wide range of event title partners – with more to be announced soon – is great news for our passionate fans and partners alike and is further evidence of the growth and appeal our sport has on a global scale. It is amazing to see how far we have come since our inaugural Season launched in 2019 with just five events.“
