Now of course people are going to point out it's a non-partisan election but the previous mayor was endorsed by Abbott while Sepulveda is an immigration lawyer who specializes in fighting deportations and we've had a bunch of threads about Republicans"flipping" non-partisan mayorships so here you go. Democrats picked up something in the Rio Grande Valley.

How did it have a Republican mayor in the first place? Harlingen voted for Biden.

Non-partisan election. So doesn't really mean much but we've had posters make a big fuss about "flips" in non-partisan mayoral elections here before including McAllen not too far away.

I have to say, I'm someone who is widely pessimistic about the odds of the Democrats in November, but we've had a few election results in 2022 that haven't been quite so bad.

Who knows? Maybe 2022 will be a reverse 2016 with massive polling errors in the opposite direction.

Before I thought Republicans were likely to win an outright majority of the Latino vote in every election going forward. Now I think that TX-15 is Safe D. I got a lobotomy in 2019

They town voted to change election day from May to November with a vote of 75-25.

I'd expect the immigration lawyer to win the town with an 90% Hispanic/Mixed population.  She could have legalized half her voters.  The fact that Boswell was Mayor for so many years is pretty wild to me.  I guess May elections really help white guys in a migrant farming community that sees large swaths of its population move up into the Midwest to farm corn.  Winter Vacation Village my A##. lol.
