I know that bipartisanship is dead, but this idiot really is a liability for the GOP even by their standards, and I think even some in the party's leadership are recognizing that.

So, when the North Carolina Supreme Court flips Republican this year and they inevitability overturn the current fair congressional district map, can we all agree that no matter what f***ery is intended to make the map a GOP gerrymander, that Cawthorn gets drawn into a safe Democratic district? You can at least bear to part with him, right? I think that's as fair of a compromise as we all can come to for the next maps and can all be content with.

I drew a similar district in numerous non-partisan maps of NC over the 2010s too. Under 2010s numbers, it is possible to draw an entire district taking in every county in the hills.
It's quite a logical district to draw, one of two logical ways to do it.

It's definitely a reasonable way to draw it but even the Democratic proposals didn't have it. The point is to show the NC GOP hates him.

100%. Granted, I'm just one gay guy speaking from my own experience, but when I saw the video, I definitely didn't come away with the impression that this was proof that Cawthorn is gay or whatever. If anything, it's the opposite, but it's hard to explain to someone who doesn't have the right cultural context. It proves you can indeed be a guy, hump your guy friend's body while naked, and still not have anything about it seem sincerely homoerotic. It's just weirdly aggressive and not at all sexual.

Now, there have been quite a few (presumably straight) college-educated liberals who have not been able to draw this distinction. I've heard it suggested that it's probably because these are not the kind of people who interacted a lot with frat guys in college, which does bring us back into discussion of social bubbles. That video is a lot of things, but it's not proof of the trope that all anti-LGBT men are secretly gay, which is what some people have been not-so-subtly suggesting.

(But the whole cousin aspect, of course, is not explainable in any context, if that's indeed who that was.)

Let's get one thing clear: I don't care how dumb straight guys tend to be, this wasn't some sort of assault. Dude's grown-ass cousin is in bed with him naked.
