15 weeks is roughly on par with what France has, Republicans just need to stress that.

"Abortion in France is legal on demand during the first 14 weeks from conception. Abortions at later stages of pregnancy up until birth are allowed if two physicians certify that the abortion will be done to prevent injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman; a risk to the life of the pregnant woman; or that the child will suffer from a particularly severe illness recognized as incurable."

That's not what this law is.

Do they WANT to lose the midterms?

The DSCC should report this as an in-kind contribution.

A federal 15 week limit is likely to be quite popular

A 22-week limit just lost on the ballot by 18 points in Colorado.

Honestly pretty messed up that Schumer is blackmailing Graham into saying this.

I mean, that's clearly what happened. Because there's no other possible explanation for why Graham is making this ridiculous strategic misstep.

This was a very foolish move by Lindsey Graham because not only does he completely contradict a big GOP talking point about letting the states decide the abortion issues for themselves he also single handedly turned the Dems warnings about a National abortion ban into a reality

Make no mistake, we now going to say a lot of ads attacking the GOP for pushing a national abortion ban. Lindey can keep pushing this 15 week spin all he wants, but nobody in their right mind believes that Republains will stop if they actually got his bill passed. If they succeed in getting a 15 weeks ban eventually they will simply ban abortion outright

Lindsey Graham knows this and unfortunately for the GOP I suspect that the American people also know it which is why Lindsey should have just kept his big mouth shut and left this issue up to the states to decide just as the GOP claimed they were going to do.....

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/graham-introducing-15-week-abortion-ban-says-bill-may-help-gop-midterms

Quote

Sen. Lindsey Graham Tuesday is announcing a bill to ban abortion after 15 weeks as debate rages over the issue after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade earlier this year.

Titled the "Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act," the legislation comes as Democrats hammer the GOP on the campaign trail over state laws restriction abortions. Graham told Fox News Digital Tuesday morning that his bill is similar to laws in other developed countries and could actually help Republicans running in the midterms.

Call this a part of a campaign to slowly but surely chip away at abortion rights until it becomes entirely illegal, but this proposal is pretty moderate and maybe even to the left of the median voter.

That would only be true if it was coupled with a federal abortion rights guarantee under 15 weeks.

I've long said that in the new situation, that's the position the federal Democrats should take.

The bill is obviously going nowhere other than straight to the ad market as others have said, and even if they somehow managed to get 60 Senate votes to pass a nationwide ban (0% chance), blue states would ignore it regardless, the same way states that legalized marijuana are currently ignoring federal law.

Mark my words: a nationwide ban will never happen even if 60 ERs made it to the Senate someday.

Does Graham’s bill allow abortions before 15 weeks? Or does it merely ban it after 15 weeks and allows states to decide before 15 weeks?

Only 5% of abortions occur after 15 weeks. Honestly 15 weeks seems acceptable compromise to me

Why though?

Partial birth abortions were banned with bipartisan support. Wasn’t that a compromise? Third trimester abortions are illegal in like 48 states. Isn’t that a compromise?

Most women who give birth after 15 weeks are emergencies which graham bill may or may not protect.

Look how well those compromises worked out for the pro-choice side.

And that's a pretty important question, isn't it? How much uncertainty would this bill cause for medical emergencies, and how many hoops are we making physicians jump through to provide necessary care?

How is this a compromise anyway? It doesn't relegalize abortion in states with heartbeat laws or no time limit at all.

Yeah that's why a referendum in Kansas failed by 20-points.

Lindsey Graham is generally detestable, but he occasionally has moments of good. This is one of those times; a definite step in the right direction, even if I'd like to see a more strict national ban.

Lindsey Graham is one of the most pathetic - if not the most pathetic - figures of American politics these days.

Nothing represents the modern Republican Party more than a white single man with no children spearheading a bill telling American mothers what they can and can't do with their bodies.
