If George W. Bush picks former Missouri Sen. John Danforth instead of Dick Cheney as his running mate, how does it affect the race?

Does Danforth being on the ticket help Jim Talent for Governor and John Ashcroft for Senate?

This would have been one of the most unpopular tickets in history.  A Fake Texan and a Missourian, both of whom were Ivy Leaguers whose Eastern Republican credentials were very much in order..
