1789-1801: Federalist
1801-1825: Democratic-Republican
1825-1845: Democrat
1845-1855: Whig
1856-1913: Republican
1913-present: Democrat

I was too devoted to parties, so here it goes against:

1789-1801: Federalist
1801-1825: Democratic-Republican
1825-1837: Democrat
1837-1861: Independent (lean Democrat)
1861-1866: Republican
1866-1885: Independent (lean Republican)
1885-1897: Democrat
1897-1909: Republican
1909-1913: Independent (lean Democrat)
1913-1913: Progressive
1913-1923: Democrat
1923-1929: Independent (lean Democrat)
1929-1953: Democrat
1953-1961: Independent (lean Democrat)
1961-2007: Democrat

1929-1953: Democrat
1953-1961: Independent (lean Democrat)
1961-2008: Democrat
2008-Present: Republican

Anything special about 2008 that caused you to change? Other than the Lieberman threads?

Just a general trending rightward.  I'll probably be an Independent soon.

Then your whole outlook has changed, meaning you'd have been a Republican since at least 2001.

How do you figure?

Not using hindsight here. If you had your current philosophy in 2001, you'd be a Republican then, too.

Whether technically registered with these parties or not, this is how I would self-label.

1789-1797 - Pro-Administration (Federalist)
1797-1825 - Democratic-Republican
1825-1832 - National Republican
1833-1860 - Democratic
1861-2008 - Republican

I don't know if I would have voted for Lincoln the first time, but once the war started I would have fallen into the fold, I believe. No, I don't like slavery, I'm just not sure I really would have taken the chance.

I probably would have voted for FDR from 1932-1944, and possibly Truman in 1948, but I don't think I every would have considered myself 'not a Republican'.

Well, that's my take on it, anyway.
