I think I've done this before, but I can't find the thread.  Regardless of who you voted for, what party would you have been a member of?  I'll go first:

1789-1795: No Party
1795-1805: Federalist
1805-1824: Republican/Democratic-Republican
1824-1838: Whig
1838-1856: Independent
1856-1873: Republican
1873-1915: Democrat
1915-1995: Republican
1995-2005: Democrat
2005-Present: Independent (Possibly Republican)

My views have changed somewhat, so I'll give it another go:

1789-1795: No Party
1795-1805: Federalist
1805-1824: Republican/Democratic-Republican
1824-1838: Whig
1838-1856: Independent
1856-1873: Republican
1873-1901: Democrat
1901-1934: Republican
1934-Present: Democrat (though quite a few times I would have crossed party lines)

1776 - up until the US Civil War:  since our political parties were not formed over strong political ideologies compared to, say, European politics, I would have been an Independent

1854 -1901:  Republican

1901 - present: Democrat

footnote: 2008, just to piss off all the Hillary nuts: an anti-Hillary Independent

1799 - 1828: Democratic-Republican

This is a hard question to answer because no one knows for sure how different his views on issues, etc., would be if one were alive in a different time and/or raised under different circumstances. Environment has so much to do with one's beliefs that it's hard to consider it in a vacuum. I think I would have been a Jeffersonian Republican initially. When you get into the period between Jackson and Lincoln, though, there's not really much that I like about either of the major parties. I suppose I would have become a Republican around 1854, mainly because of the party's anti-slavery stance and because it presented an alternative to the hidebound conservatism of the other parties. But I couldn't have stayed a Republican very long after the war, when it fell under the control of the monied interests. On the other hand, the Democrats weren't much if any better in those days either. Theodore Roosevelt would probably have made me a Republican again, though-- but I would have followed him out of the party in 1912. After that, I would have been pretty consistently a Democrat, especially after FDR.
