Three of the five Nordic countries were among the original 12 members of NATO, and it appears that the other two Nordic countries will be the 31st and 32nd members, 73 years later (assuming they're accepted).

Good for Finland to finally make it official and join the West militarily.  Finland always has been more like us anyway than to those authoritarians to the east.  Perhaps “Finlandization” can mean something new now.

If Albania could just become a bit more developed, and slightly more democratic, it should be a serious candidate for EU membership. It’s already a better democracy than Turkey (low bar, Albania is FAR more democratic, still has some ways to go), and it’s located in its entirety on the European continent.
