?

By "challenger party", I mean whichever of the two major parties isn't occupying the White House as of 2028.

1. Glenn Youngkin
2. Ron DeSantis
3. Tim Scott
4. Kristi Noem
5. Ted Cruz

This list is predicated on the presumption that Trump both runs again & loses to Biden again in 2024.

1. Ron DeSantis- He's well-situated for a 2028 run if Trump loses, as a big state Governor who likely just completed two terms.
2. Kamala Harris- If Biden loses reelection, she's a slight favorite to be the nominee in 2028. It's possible but unlikely she'd be the nominee in '28 if she lost narrowly in '24.
3. Pete Buttigieg- If Harris loses in 2024, he's the most prominent potential nominee for Democrats. He was strong in 2020, and now he'll have more experience.
4. JD Vance- He is likely to enter the Senate as a major figure.
5. Eric Adams- If there's the perception Democrats lost by being too progressive, he might make a run for it.
