Project Coordinator NICK BURRIDGE:

“Our hydrogen powered chase boat is cutting edge technology, so like we do with our race yachts we have been cautiously stepping it through the commissioning process. But in saying that, we have progressed through it quite nicely and really ticked off some key milestones, some of which have really exceeded our expectations.”

„CHASE ZERO“ Skipper CHRIS SALTHOUSE:

“We filled the tanks up to 96% so we wanted to take Chase Zero out to test its cruising range and reliability at the same time. So we set out to circumnavigate a few islands around the Hauraki Gulf, we just didn’t expect to be cruising for as long as we did. We ended up motoring for nearly 6 hours in the end and covered 280km (or 151.2 nautical miles) at an average speed of 28.3 knots and still had about 10% gas left in the tanks.”

Sustainability Ambassador DR. STEPHEN TINDALL:

“As a team we are very proud of Chase Zero and we know we are leading the way forward to a cleaner emission free future of powerboating in the marine industry.
The team have done an amazing job accelerating this technology forward in a very short timeframe, and exceeding even their own high expectations, so there is an exciting and cleaner future ahead which includes several other potential NZ Hydrogen Marine projects under consideration so NZ might continue to lead the pack.”

President of the Port Authority of the Balearics FRANSECS ANTICH OLIVER:

„One of the primary strategies of Ports de Balears (Port Authority of the Balearics) is to support and improve the local economy, in which the nautical sector plays a key role. Thanks to the tourism value as well as the close and well-established relationships with their respective towns and cities, our ports are able to welcome and accommodate the highest level of nautical and maritime activity and job creation, and in so doing, invest in the future of our ports.  In the same way, we are able to support the INEOS Britannia team and we wish them all the luck they may need.“

During the 4th Episode of „MOVING PARTS“ we hear from INEOS Britannia Foil Designer Nat Shaver. Shaver has been involved in four America's Cup Campaigns pioneering the Evolution of Foiling. Safe to say without people like Nat we would probably have never seen „Flying Boats“ around the Race Course

„Every team will be working so hard to win the America’s Cup. We will need to keep our foot on the gas through and continue our development until the end of the very last race of the Match to be successful. To come out on top through our own sheer determination and hard work at the end of the Campaign, would be hugely satisfying. We can’t wait for the Challenge ahead.”.

Great Britain has an outstanding history with the America’s Cup yet has never been successful. To win it with INEOS Britannia would just be incredible.“

In a new Series called „BOLD PROTOCOL“ INEOS BRITANNIA, the Challenger of Record for the 37th America's Cup looks at the Key Elements of this new Innovative Protocol.
In PART 4 we hear from INEOS Britannia Team Principal, CEO & Skipper SIR BEN AINSLIE

During this Episode of „BOLD PROTOCOL“ Ainslie digs into the Venue for the 37th America's from a Team Principals, CEO's & Skippers Perspective:

The CV of INEOS BRITANNIA Team Principal & Skipper SIR BEN AINSLIE:

  • 4-Time Olympic Gold Medalist in the Laser & Finn Class (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012).
  • 1-Time America's Cup Winner in 2013 with Oracle Team USA
  • 1-Time America's Cup World Series Winner (2015/2016)
  • 7th America's Cup Campaign (2003 with the OneWorld Challenge; 2007 with Emirates Team New Zealand, 2010 with Team ORIGIN, 2013 with Oracle Team USA; 2017 with Land Rover BAR; 2021 with INEOS TEAM UK; 2024 with INEOS BRITANNIA)

SIR BEN AINSLIE looks at 8 Key Elements of the new Host Venue for AC37 Barcelona:

  • Is it a Bold Protocol?
  • Event Announcement
  • What it means for INEOS BRITANNIA
  • Weather Performance in Barcelona
  • The new AC40 Class + the Women's & Youth America's Cups
  • Who will win the America's Cup?
  • Further Contestants
  • AC75

„Because of the varying and changeable conditions in Barcelona during September and October, the design team is tasked with coming up with a concept that can be competitive across a range of conditions and sea states.”

It has been a great morale boost for the team to Barcelona announced as a venue as it has given us a deadline and time frame to develop the fastest boat.

To be in such an iconic sailing city, given the history of the America's Cup, we couldn’t have asked for a better venue. We're absolutely delighted and can't wait to get there, get out on the water, and race in 2024.“

5TH JULY 2022
AMERICA'S CUP EVENT LIMITED, THE ORGANISING BODY TASKED TO CONDUCT ALL AC37 RELATED EVENTS TODAY ANNOUNCED THE „RACE FORMAT“ FOR THE WOMEN'S & YOUTH AMERICA'S CUPS WHO WILL ALSO BE HELD OF BARCELONAS COASTLINE IN 2024

The Race Formats for both, the Women's & the Youth America's Cups are currently a moving target. At the moment 10 Teams would be eligible to contest the Women's & Youth AC, 5 from Pool A and 5 from Pool B. However, there are persistent indications that a French Yacht Club has challenged for the 37th America's Cup which would increase the Participants to 12 Teams. Whether that's proven to be correct remains to be seen. The initial Entry Deadline to challenge for the 37th America's Cup closes on July 31st 2022. The Deadline to register for the Women's & Youth AC as a Non-AC Team (Challenger) opens on October 1st 2022.

Source: STEVE ETHERINGTON/MERCEDES-BENZ AG
Source: INEOS TEAM UK

Geoffs first taste with the America's Cup came in 1987 when he worked Blue Arrow Syndicate. Unfortunately because of a Legal Dispute between the USA and New Zealand Willis never got the chance to see his Boat race for the Cup.

Since then he worked for the Williams & Mercedes F1 Teams on aerodynamics, hydrodynamics & CFD.

„To win the America’s Cup for Britain would be incredibly special. I've been very fortunate to be part of winning many World Championships in Formula One which has given me a huge reward. To be part of winning the America's Cup for Britain for the first time ever would be a very big cherry on top of that cake.
Some parts feel harder than Formula One as we have a bigger design space and we only get one go at it. Anybody that's involved in the America's Cup should take a huge amount of pride in that. It’s a really tough thing to do, but in the future to sit back and you look back, you can say, ‘Yep, I was part of that. That's what we did.“

2ND AUGUST 2022
INEOS BRITANNIA, the Challenger of Record for the 37TH AMERICA'S CUP launch the „ATHENA PATHWAY PROGRAMME“ to race towards a gender equal sport
Source: D. Wilko/Athena Pathway

ATHENA PATHWAY PROGRAMME Athletes will race in the Women's & Youth America's Cups in Bercelona 2024 as well as during the F50 SAILGP Circuit.

The CEO of Athena Pathway is the most successful Female Olympic Sailor of All-Time, Hannah Mills OBE.

HANNAH MILLS OBE, CEO of the Athena Pathway Programme:

„Sailing has made great strides forward in gender equality in recent decades, led by the Olympic side of the sport where gender equality has now been reached on the water, but the professional side, particularly in high-performance foiling sailing, is far behind where it needs to be. We as a sport are uniquely placed to drive huge global change when it comes to gender equality. High-performance sailing has no major barriers to physical entry and through the Athena Pathway we will create a gender equal pathway for all, with sustainability at its heart.

I am incredibly excited to be teaming up with Ben on this project to change the landscape of professional sailing in the UK. Young girls are already coming up to me excited by the potential opportunities within the America’s Cup, SailGP and beyond as they get older, which is amazing to see. Equally, however, the knock-on effect this could have in terms of growth within our sport as more females see career opportunities within the marine industry could be huge.“

SIR BEN AINSLIE, Team Principal & CEO Challenger of Record INEOS BRITANNIA; ATHENA PATHWAY PROGRAM ADVISOR:

„When we first launched our official charity, the 1851 Trust, in 2014 one of our key ambitions was to bring more diversity into the marine industry in this country. We are still doing that at the grassroots level in schools across the UK, but now, through the Athena Pathway, we hope to be able to offer significant experience and opportunities, at the highest level of our sport, to further achieve that ambition.“

TIM HACKET, Alinghi Red Bull Racing Shore Team Manager:

„The launch was a big step for us, made possible thanks to the coordination of the whole team. We had to find our feet in a new city with new colleagues and buying a boat that we hadn’t worked on previously required a lot of hours to get used to. All these hours are learning experiences that will be useful towards BoatOne. Now that the boat is launched, we still have various checks to carry out before we can sail in a few days’ time.“

NILS FREI, Alinghi Red Bull Racing Head Coach:

„Today symbolises the adventure that begins in Barcelona! This first-generation boat will allow us to gain valuable training hours before we have our race boat. We are a new team sailing a boat that we are only just discovering, but to be able to train already this year is highly beneficial. If there is one thing that all Cup campaigns have in common, it is that you can never make up for lost time. And you never have enough of it! The preparations for this launch have given us the opportunity to learn to work together, and it is so important to be united towards a common goal in an America’s Cup campaign.“

PIETRO SIBELLO, Alinghi Red Bull Racing Sailing Team Advisor:

„Managing an AC75 is a major part of an America’s Cup project. You must respect every stage despite the excitement. Being part of this team and being able to pass on our knowledge, alongside Dean Barker, means a lot to me. We have complementary experiences because we come from different teams, and this will allow us to get the best out of each other and to then pass it on to the young and talented Alinghi Red Bull Racing crew.“

SILVIO ARRIVABENE, Alinghi Red Bull Racing Co-General Manager of Technical Operations:

„BoatZero will allow us to gain the necessary experience on the AC75. Despite the satisfaction of today’s festivities, we are aware that there is still a lot of work to do to catch up with the level of the teams that raced the 36th America’s Cup. But today has given us the energy to focus on the next step: sailing.“

INEOS BRITANNIA, THE CHALLENGER OF RECORD FOR THE 37TH AMERICA'S RECENTLY TOUCHED DOWN IN PALMA DE MALLORCA AND SENIOR SAILOR GILES SCOTT GIVES AN UPDATE ON THE TEAMS WINTER TRAINING CAMP PREPARATIONS
Source: INEOS BRITANNIA

GILES SCOTT, INEOS Britannia Senior Sailor:

„In the past few months, everything has started feeling very real for the Cup. "We've got the venue, all the rules are in place, and teams are coming in. It's now game on with continued hard work to see up the bases in Barcelona.
I cannot wait to get the test boat on the water. Being able to get a test boat out on the water with actual sailing data is a crucial piece of the puzzle. This next phase of getting the test boat on the water and getting through the testing phase is critical as we look to sign off the key design features for our AC75 race boat.
The new Shared Recon programme, will be fascinating to watch as it involves the sailors and key designers being interviewed, about decisions being made out on the water. This shared knowledge will not only help the teams in honing and completing the design packages but also hopefully help share the fascination and insight of the Cup with the public and grow the fanbase further, it could be a real gamechanger.“

„The operational plan will have us moving to Barcelona to meet the July 1st through October 31st, 2023, sailing in the venue on the two AC 40s owned by NYYC American Magic. The facilities at Marina Barcelona 92 will allow us to focus on our high-performance sailing program and in-house training as we target the 37th America's Cup. Again, we're grateful for Port de Barcelona's support and look forward to training in such a beautiful and friendly city.“

TYSON LAMOND, Chief Operating Officer American Magic:

„The Marina Barcelona 92 site meets all the operational needs of NYYC American Magic and ticks all the boxes with excellent facilities and access points. We look forward to working with the local community and getting on the water in Barcelona.“

THE APPENDAGE FACTORY

FOILS, RUDDERS & ELEVATORS are being constructed at the Emirates Team New Zealand Boat Building Facility for the new AC40 Class.

Appendage Build Manager SCOTT STOKES gives an Update:

„Obviously, with this new class of 40-footer, our side of the deal was to produce all the 2.9m / 140kg foil arms as well as the rudders and the elevators that go with the rudder. It is a massive task, so at first, we had to prepare ourselves mentally really, to face just the volume of parts needed.

The appendage build project for the AC40’s has been great to keep progressing our young boat builders in their roles at our facility. With some of our more experienced guys coming back in we put them in areas to lead some of these projects, then slowly throughout the production we've been able to filter some of the younger guys into some leading areas, and it's worked out nicely.

Two days ago, we sent out foil arms seven and eight in a box, and that’s with rudder two and the elevator also. Foil arms 9 and 10 are right in the middle of the fairing process, 11 and 12 they’ll be sitting in a jig, and the guys will get around to those and will be assembling them. Then we go further down into the 13 and 14, which are getting th wet wrap already.

So, where we're sitting is middle of the way there with the arms and probably a little bit over halfway there with the rudder, so it’s quite satisfying to go on the floor, it’s all really heading towards the first of these eight boats. It will be really nice to see the first AC40 land here actually, it'll be the start of here we go, the start of this next America’s Cup cycle.“

The 1st new AC40 Race Boat which belongs to the America's Cup Defender Emirates Team New Zealand is expected to be launched in Auckland at the end of September/early October with other Teams following soon thereafter.
