Following a split decision in 2022, both Democrats and Republicans had much to celebrate. Democrats could celebrate increasing their majority in the Senate, though they still did not have the votes to overturn the fillibuster and get around Mitch McConnell, while Republicans could celebrate their capture of the House of Representatives, and election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker.

While Joe Biden has made the decision not to run for reelection, announcing it shortly after Election Night, all eyes now turn to Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump. For each, their entry or lack thereof, would shape their party's primary field.

Rules

This game will begin on May 1, 2023. You can schedule your announcements for President before this date if you wish.

President Biden will not endorse before the Democratic National Convention. Owing to the Hatch Act, cabinet officials, and other administration officials also will not endorse candidates.

There are no limits on endorsements, however some endorsements (such as newspapers in Iowa/New Hampshire, and former President Trump if he is not a player candidate) will not endorse before certain dates.

In terms of advertisements, there are no limits to the number of ads a candidate may run, but they must declare where an advertisement is airing, what medium it is using (such as print, TV  radio or internet) and for how long it will be out.

Eligible Candidates

Republicans

Former President Donald Trump (GregtheGreat657)

Former Vice President Mike Pence

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

Senator Ted Cruz

Senator Josh Hawley

Senator Tom Cotton

Senator Marco Rubio

Governor Greg Abbott

Former Governor Larry Hogan

Former Representative Paul Ryan

Governor Phil Scott (NOTTYLER)

Governor Ron DeSantis (Zenobiyl)

Any other Republican Eligible to Run in 2024

Democrats

Vice President Kamala Harris (Pink Panther)

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigeig

Senator Elizabeth Warren (jakobisgood)

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Governor Kathy Hochul (MyCool)

Governor Roy Cooper (CentristRepublican)

Former Governor John Bel Edwards

Senator Sherrod Brown

Senator Krysten Simena

Senator Tammy Baldwin (GoTfan)

Any other Democrat who is eligible to run in 2024

You can, though I should warn you, this primary won't be as easy as 2024 will be IRL for Trump.

Am I allowed to sign on as Tammy Baldwin?

Of course.

I'm delighted to have your wealth of experience in gameplay too, so I hope you stick around for the long haul.

things should quiet down a little for me in May, so I should have time to devote to this! Can I claim Kathy Hochul?

You could have Hochul.

This won't start until after Easter/Passover, and that's still a couple of weeks away.

While the game won't officially start until around Easter, I would like a couple of things right now.

A Harris/Buttigeig player (or even two players playing both).

At least one more Republican (preferably a more high-profile one than Phil Scott).

In the coming day or so I'll also have the results of the 2022 Midterms posted here for reference.

I meant to ask if you wanted Scott as a Republican or as an Independent, but in hindsight, I can't see running as anything other than a Republican.

I'd be willing to tentatively sign up, but I can't promise I'll be able to play for the entire game. How long do you anticipate it to last, and how long would you estimate I'd have to spend on it? Depending on the answers to those two questions, I'd likely be willing to sign up as Roy Cooper.

How long the game will last probably will depend on how active the players are.

I wouldn't anticipate having to spend more than a couple of hours per turn on the game, unless you are being very through.

Also, do we check with you for endorsements, or can we just posts any unclaimed endorsement with the exception of those you mention we can't? (Like, for instance, if as Roy Cooper, I wanted - just an example - Mark Kelly's endorsement, and no one else had claimed it, would I need to check with you first about endorsing, or could I just go ahead and announce that Kelly had endorsed me?)

You would PM me endorsement requests. Not all will get through immediately (for example, it's likely that an endorsement request of Chris Sununnu by a Republican candidate won't be accepted until closer to the New Hampshire Primary).

Okay then let's sign me up for Roy Cooper.

That would be fine with me.

For future players, I'd really appreciate someone taking either Harris or Buttigeig.

Can I be Vince McMahon? Considering that you said any other Republican that's eligible can be taken.

Sure, but at this time I would prefer someone take Kamala Harris or Pete Buttigeig, as I don't feel comfortable starting without one or both being played by someone.

Know what, I'll be Kamala. If that's what it takes to get the game started.

Thank you. The gameplay thread will be up later this week.

Since all players have now posted an announcement or  schedule, this turn is closed.

The next turn will be up later today or tomorrow.

A tad bit disappointed I haven't been checking this side of the forum and didn't see this thread in time but I will be watching this gameplay thread closely.

I'm always open to helping with the running of the game also.

Feel free to help. For example, when we get to the caucuses/primaries/general election, I would appreciate some assistance setting up each election night.

Also, technically, signups are still open, as we are nowhere near the Iowa Caucuses yet (that's the hard deadline for any entries to the field), and we could use an additional Republican, or possibly an Independent candidate, or if you really want to play as a Democrat, I wouldn't say no (though I'd prefer a Republican, and if you pick a candidate that already has endorsed someone else, you'd better have a very good explanation).

Are the other Democratic candidates planning on getting their debate answers in before the deadline? Or am I going to win by virtue of being the only attendee? I already had Cooper answer each of his debate questions.

The turn will likely be extended, as I've only received one request for endorsements from any Republican candidate as well.

Shame. Can I post my campaign schedule for the next round before it begins, though? (I'd need to know the dates, but once I do, it'd be good if I could get my campaign schedule out.)

The next round will take place until July 4. I'm not beginning that turn early, because as currently planned, there will be a Republican Primary debate during that turn, and possibly a second Democratic debate as well (I haven't decided if that will be that turn or the following turn).

You can however, request additional endorsements, and post schedules for your surrogates for this turn if you wish (and I recommend you do the latter).

will likely need a short extension (less than 24 hours). it’s been a very hectic week for me but i’m almost done with debate responses!

Of course.
