Turn is closed. Everyone ready for Iowa when it goes up?

Spiral and I both need a little more time, if that's possible. He needs to post his schedule and I need to post additional details about my campaigning (which I'll only do tomorrow - cannot do any more today).

Have already started work on a post with the details of Cooper's campaigning in NH (IA and NC/SC are posted). Should be up in the next hour and a half (need to go now but when I'm back I'll wrap it up).

If I see one more attack from you, I'm putting you in jail for marijuana related charges.

LOL.

Seriously though, I didn't put any: for NH I just gave a broad schedule/summary of what I did daily (similar to the schedule you put up for Harris) and didn't feature any excerpts from Cooper's rallies (as it is there were a lot of town halls and not that many rallies).

Now I'm depressed that I stepped down as GM (then again, if I were GM still, we'd have just passed election day 2023 right now.) I would have had fun scoring the Harris/Cooper fighting.

I made a calculated decision to accelrate the turns. A big problem games have is petering out before they reach the primaries, and I wanted to avoid that.

When IA's results come in, will you just give the final results statewide, or also give a county map and/or results by congressional districts?

I hate that it's come to this so early, but Adams will regrettably have to drop out for personal reasons. He fully endorses Cooper for the nomination.

Thank you!!!!

ROY COOPER FOR THE WIN! We are now unstoppable!!

I'd actually like to know too (so I can learn some formatting tricks if I want to attempt to do this again in the future. It's unlikely, as I prefer playing these games to hosting them, but every bit of knowledge helps me out).

When will the next turn be up?

Soon. I've closed the turn permanently now.

Trying to figure out the point of continuing a campaign at this point that is certain to lose, will make a decision on withdrawing in a couple of hours.

Don't count yourself out just yet. Remember Shep Smith's words, "Politics is weird . . and creepy".

I would hope Adams endorsing me at least makes me the favourite to win though, and makes me significantly likelier to win IA, NH and NV (all states in which I was down) and SC (the one state I was within striking distance of).

Alright, I have finished writing my drafts of the 2024 Iowa caucuses!

So to be clear, we have a few days to put up campaign info for January 19-22, and THEN you'll put up the results for the IA caucus?

Iowa results are going up in a few hours

Will NH also be happening on this turn, or will it be happening on the next turn?
Also, will/can there be a debate between Harris and Cooper before the NH primary?

I have to admit, I'm really enjoying dragging Harris through the mud at every turn!

You can kiss EPA Administrator goodbye.

Just me, speaking as a veteran player and former GM, but a Harris/Cooper ticket would be very effective in November...

For Cooper, if he gets nominated, my personal feeling is Baldwin would be perfect. Progressive and would absolutely help with that wing of the party, scandal-free, from a swing state and very popular there, LGBTQ+, female. I really can't think of a better VP choice on the whole.

That's fine; I intend to be president and am not interested in settling for EPA Administrator to begin with. And as for Harris, far from being Vice-President, she'll likely end up with some random role like Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs or something, if even that.
Basically, the mutual sentiment here appears to be this: to the victor go the spoils.

Regarding other cabinet stuff though, I think I'm going to reward Adams for his endorsement (though it seems to have actually hurt more than it helped with a lot of voters...) by making him HUD Secretary.

I'll be extending this turn by 24 hours so everyone can catch their breath a little before we dive into New Hampshire.

To be clear - the upcoming round begins on January 23 (the day after IA) and includes the NH primary and a pre-primary debate among the Democrats, correct?

Kerry's candidacy may well prove a boon to the Cooper campaign.

Given that my campaign is becoming more progressive/anti-establishment and Harris more establishmentarian, and that Kerry is the epitome of mainstream Democratic establishment, this should draw more votes from Harris than from Cooper.

We'll see, but hopefully this (coupled with energetic campaigning on Cooper's part over the next week, of course) allows Cooper to win the NH primary.

I believe he said that the next debate will take place next turn right before the NH Primary,

All right, good.

Btw good luck winning NH now that Kerry has entered the picture. Unless he's not contesting NH? Seems like Spiral may be employing a Bloomberg Strategy and is not campaigning in early states but is instead focusing on winning in later states?

For now, I'm playing it safe and assuming that it's too late to get on the ballot for immediate states like NH. NV and SC could be viable, but I'm waiting on GoTfan for final confirmation on that.

I was thinking of having Cooper not contest NV since polling shows me down by a lot even after the Adams endorsement, but if Kerry enters and the polling tightens, I might invest more time/resources there. Otherwise, though, the goal is to win NH (or otherwise, come very close to winning), and to win SC outright (preferably by a comfortable margin and not a narrow margin).

See, the thing you really have to appreciate about Spiral is that he does his oppo research, waits till the right moment, and then slams it at you. If we’re being honest I wasn’t aware of this oil/gas incident, and don’t know how I’m going to respond to it. Good for you, Spiral.

Appreciate the kind words. There's always plenty of more where that came from. Wink

In my defense, though, you can't say I didn't have Cooper defend his record on climate change Smiley

Side note, that was my first time writing up coverage in one of these games. Feedback is more than welcome.

I'm a fan of the way you handled primary coverage. One thing I would like to see more of is better detailed debate recaps. Sometimes I feel that past turn summaries overlooked the effects of the debates and the exchanges we had with all the effort we've put into our posts.

Past games have done everything from a letter grading scale for debate performances to a poll on who won for the evening.

Tbf we've only had like 1 or 2 debates since GoTfan took over. Still, I agree with you and given that there's an upcoming debate in the run up to NH, it'd be nice if there could be a poll on who won post-debate.

All feedback has been taken into account, rest assured.

I will say this, the back and forth between Harris and Cooper is going to get very interesting with Kerry now in the race. Especially since Kerry can leverage some of the advantages Baldwin would've had in the race.

I am looking at intensifying the debate schedule as well.

I was hoping it'd help Cooper by drawing establishmentarian votes from Harris into Kerry's column, but Kerry/Spiral isn't helping by attacking Cooper so much and laying off Harris.

I admit if I were still GM, I would probably have vetoed a Kerry candidacy, but I'm enjoying what Spiral is doing with him so far.

The voters will, don't worry.

Just gonna politely request Harris have an interview since I think she's the only Democratic candidate yet to have one.

To NOT have one, you mean? Because Adams, Kerry and Cooper have already been interviewed.

I am extremely troubled over Vince McMahon's possible attendance at President Carter's funeral. This is a man who has engaged in serial assault of our fellow candidates and who shows no respect of the democratic process through his flagrant election lies. We are about to honor a statesman, and with that comes a level of basic decency that Mr. McMahon has simply obliterated. For all we know, he could be planning to bodyslam into the casket. Let us not forget that there was an assassination attempt on Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez at a rally just this past week. What message would it send to the nation and the world to accept somebody who frequently promotes and engages in violence at campaign events?

We cannot afford a security risk for such a somber and sensitive occasion. I would implore funeral organizers to reassess this invitation and its consequences.

LOL.

Vice President Harris fights back at Roy Cooper at Democratic Debate

“Roy, my dear friend, the only reason I’ve let you mercilessly slander my name is because I can disassociate better than you can enunciate, I’m not phased by your accusations because I have a responsibility to use this stage, that only three Americans are left standing on, to speak about the issues that matter to working people. I will respond to your attacks once, and then I will go back to championing the issues that matter. Your attacks on my record as a prosecutor are unequivocally hypocritical. You’ve berated me for executing the laws of my city when I was San Francisco’s district attorney, that was my job, I had a duty to the people of San Francisco and a duty to the people of the state of California. In fact, when I was Attorney General of California, I supported and advocated for proposition 64, which legalized marijuana in my state and led to the recreational sale of it in California by 2018.

Roy, you were the attorney general of North Carolina for 16 years. Marijuana was not legal in North Carolina from 2001 to 2017, how many people did your lawyers prosecute for smoking weed? This isn’t an issue that needs to be presented disingenuously, I’m thrilled that when you were Governor, you smartened up and legalized marijuana in the state of North Carolina. But we still need to, as I’m sure you can agree, do the same thing on a national level, I’m currently advocating for that as Vice President. Too many people are watching this debate from a prison cell tonight, because of the racist marijuana laws that we have in this country. If any of those people are watching, as someone who has made that mistake in the past, I’m fighting really, really hard to get you out of there.

I have been a punching bag, too many times in my life, for the older, whiter, more charismatic men in the room. I refuse to let you do that to me, Governor Cooper. There’s your long awaited response, now let’s talk about the issues that matter to the American people instead of spouting nonsense just because you want to win.”

Rock-solid response.
