Hillary Clinton was the one Democrat the Bush campaign actually feared in 2004. If she'd run, and won the Democratic nomination, she would have won.

Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY)/Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) 50%
President George W. Bush (R-TX)/Vice President Dick Cheney (R-WY) 46%

LOL, I see OSR is continuing with his bizarre "Ackshually Kerry ran an incredible campaign in 2004 and Bush was an unbeatable candidate!" fetish.

If you unironically believe Hillary Clinton would have lost Missouri and Arkansas in 2004, I have a bridge to sell you.

Man I'm disappointed. This may be the laziest map you have ever made.

If Hillary could've won Ohio, she wins the election.  Only headwinds would've been all the gay marriage ban amendments on the state level that drove evangelical turnout.  I think she could've done it because she could've run a "It's the economy, stupid!" 2.0 message.  And if she chooses a better running mate than Kerry did, then that's another bonus.

Super Hillary™ not only overcomes the gay marriage ballot initiative that cost Kerry Ohio, she single-handedly reverses long-term trends in the South based on a multitude of factors including Democrat pivots on trade policy and environmentalism. Glad you replied though, gave me another opportunity to point out your hackishness.

Definitely one of the better Hillary 2004 results.  Maybe Bob Graham or Tom Vilsack as a running mate?

Bush was Uber popular all across the south so yah Bush would have still taken Arkansas by 5-6 points against Hillary and in Missouri its hard to see how Hillary can make up a 7 point deficit .

Still, it's hard to see her underperform Kerry. I disagree with those who say 'lol hillary wins 300+EVS bc of economy and Bill Clinton' but she'd exceed Kerry, probably taking Iowa.

Keep in mind Kerry did a fantastic job at the debates which is what let him make it close . Before the debates Bush was way up in the polls and it looked like he’d cruise to victory so the question is can Hillary reliever a similar debate performance .

Now I do think that Hillary does a better job campaigning in August  and September but I don’t think it makes up for the fact that Kerry did do a great job in the debates .

Agreed. Atomic-Statism probably has the map closest to reality, I think.

To Barkley and OSR - I agree with OSR that MO going blue would have been a stretch, but on AR, both of you are wrong. I feel as though it'd go red, but by under 5 points.  It would go for Bush, but narrowly.

First of all, John Edwards was a good running mate. Secondly, she would very probably have chosen Evan Bayh.

Guys, a quick reminder: Hillary still used to be anti-SSM back than, plus it shouldn't be disregarded that she voted for the Iraqi resolution. Furthermore, she was still in a quandary over whether to be pro-choice or pro-life.

I have a hard time believing the wife of the guy that coined the term "safe, legal, and rare" and vetoed a partial birth abortion ban would have a hard time deciding whether to be pro choice or pro life.

Who knows? It could've been a Bush landslide or a Clinton landslide.

I don't think a landslide for anyone was possible in 2004. I agree with those that say Bush would narrowly win it, with Hillary winning one of NM or IA on top of all the states Kerry won.
