Two notes:

Sabato had this race as Safe R.

Alaska Survey Research should be the only polling firm in the country. They absolutely nailed this one.

As someone whose first time voting was 2008, this is an UNBELIEVABLY satisfying result

Alaska’s five Representatives have been, in order, Democratic, Republican, Democratic, Republican, and now Democratic.

Honestly this feels as significant, if not more significant, than Doug Jones.

Well Republicans thought they would lose that one.

Also, is this the first race rated Safe that has ever gone to the other party.

Peltola hadn't even been born yet the last time anyone other than Don Young held this seat!

Too bad it's only for a few months and Begich will handily defeat her in November. Cool though! I like Peltola.

Eh Alaska is one of the most elastic states. I wouldn’t count her out

Eh, I'll slightly disagree there. We may never see another win like Jones' in Alabama ever while I can see Alaska voting for Democrats more often some time in the future.

It was worth it just to deny Palin a comeback.

I wish it wasn't the case but this feels like a huge fluke.  I don't think any Republican but Sara Palin could have lost this race.

If he couldn't do well in a special election in August in a double digit red state there's no guarantee he's gonna win in November.

I think we’ll be hearing that a lot in November.

Republicans who ranked Palin first this time will rank Begich first instead because Palin lost to Peltola head-to-head.

All these takes like "This doesn't matter", "It's a fluke" and "Not much to take away from this", yet this thread would likely be a wall of "Red wave incoming" dooming & fatalism had Palin won.
