I think there would be more of a realignment here. Manchin would at least get KY & NC and Sununu would probably win ME-AL and ME-02 and NE-02 as well.

Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line. Manchin would excite nobody and many liberals and progressives would stay home, while he just few conservative oriented voters would switch. Sununu is still conservative enough for the vast majority of the GOP base to turn out. He's no Baker or Scott.
