The American election season goes on for an absurdly long time, basically the whole thing starts immediately after the midterms which means 50% of the time America is in election mode. Thats the first problem to fix right there, voters might even be more engaged if the elections actually came round every four years rather than two years off, two years on.

Primaries should take place over a few weeks in the summer and no debates over a year before the actual election.
