In 2016, the Republican ticket of U.S Senator Ed Donnell (R-VA) and Scott Walker defeated the Democratic ticket of Hillary Clinton/John Hickenlooper by flipping Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa, Virginia, New Hampshire, Florida and Pennsylvania.

As President, Ed Donnell lowered taxes, banned trans people from the military and renegotiated NAFTA and TPP (although the latter wasn't gutted outright). However, the Donnell Administration made less use of tariffs, created a Small Business Tax Credit, successfully repealed and replaced Obamacare, implemented school choice and focused on trade schools while ending Common Core, remained in the Paris Agreement, ended late-term abortions, made greater investment on fracking, electric cars and green energy, confronted Chinese expansion, made a peace deal with Iran (which boosted his popularity by the beginning of the primary season) and gradually withdrew American troops from Afghanistan in 2020.

COVID-19 still happened. Donnell opposed lockdowns and mask mandates, saying they were destroying the American economy and violating Americans' freedom. However, unlike DJT, Donnell wore a mask in public, didn't disband the pandemic taskforce and focused on digital campaigning and billboards - however, he gave some speeches to limited audiences. However, his wife got COVID on October 2nd. As to the BLM protests, Donnell said they had noble goals but that the rioting and looting were indefensible.

The Democratic ticket is Joe Biden/Tammy Baldwin due to a stronger Sanders campaign.
