The xenophobia and economic illiteracy in this thread is kind of stunning. I'd expect this from casual low-information types, not people on this forum.
There is absolutely nothing xenophobic in this thread. If prioritizing the well-being of American workers over foreign workers is xenophobic, count me in as a proud xenophobe.
The economic analysis in the thread has been surprisingly good too. I, and many others, don't subscribe to the
neoliberal mode of economic analysis. Sure, the GDP might be a little bigger overall if we keep aggressively outsourcing industry, but I value American workers with families and kids having stable jobs and strong communities over yuppie DINKs with more money than sense being able to consume even more product than they already do. Producer-oriented economics over consumer-oriented economics any day.
