Assuming Trump indeed gets the Republican nomination.

I thought Trump had the advantage because he didn’t have to focus on trying to get the Republican nomination and could just start bashing on Democrats.

No difference. Cruz was basically done, and people would have ignored him just as they ignored Kasich (who didn't officially drop out until after). As a practical matter, Cruz wouldn't have been able to burn / waste donor money just to sabotage Trump

Clinton.

Cruz would've thrown through enough badwill to keep the #NeverTrump mods afloat, which alters the course enough to give Clinton the edge in the end, just like Buchanan '92.

But a reality where Cruz doesn't drop out about as close to ours as one in which the conservative media just let the 2020 Nevada Caucus slide...so basically, not at all.

Cruz outright refused to endorse Trump at the convention, and many Republicans even abandoned him in October after Access Hollywood. The Republican primary was absolutely more divisive than the Democratic primary in 2016 already.
