About 10% of OC posts are prophetic gold. The other 90% are the usual repetitive stuff about the secular party and dixiecrats. He's feast or famine. BRTD manages to be consistently hilarious and entertaining even while continuing to beat the same dozen or so long past dead horses.

In my case, I'm "missing" a bunch of my posts that I made years ago, when I was a moderator.  I assume they still exist on the mod board, so the posts are very real, and can still be read by anyone with mod board access, but that no longer includes me.  But since the posts still exist and can be read by someone, they should absolutely still count towards my post count total.

I can only assume then that BRTD also has a bunch of posts on the mod board, because either: 1) He secretly used to be a mod, or 2) a cabal of mods have quietly moved a large number of his public posts off of the public board and onto the mod board, because it's important that they be used as evidence for something or other, and they're afraid that left to his own devices, BRTD might have deleted them.

That's not the reason for the disparity. I, for example, actually have more posts logged than my "official" count indicates.

Hate to empty quote, but DeadO very concisely and succinctly expresses my PoV on the "BRTD Question".

I believe at one point I even made a post on an "opinion of..." thread and even stole a quote from George Orwell's 1984.

Even if I have many disagreements with him, I actually enjoy his posts (and also think, quirks notwithstanding, he's among the more sensible Democrats here ideologically).  Voted FF.

That's not the reason for the disparity. I, for example, actually have more posts logged than my "official" count indicates.

I think there are just hiccups in the software where an operation's database operations don't ALL complete and so you may be left in a situation where the post count is updated but the actual post doesn't go through for some reason, or a post is deleted but the count fails to be updated, and while this is rare, they can accumulate over time.

As for me, I actually see a different number of posts for him as my version of the post history shows reported posts (posts he reported). It's just a byproduct of how the report system works. Reporting a post does increase your post count by 1, for that reason.

Perhaps one of these days I should have the forum re-calculate actual post counts
